I did listen to Girls on Film on my headphones and the camera clicks at the beginning sounded a bit odd. It's like it came in earlier in one ear and then repeated in full through both. I might just have a dodgy CD or they ay have mucked it up. Original GOF and Tel Aviv demos are amazing though. So 70's!

Any of the negative comments on here and Amazon regarding SATRT can apply to the debut as well. Too much volume and distortion and not enough dynamic. On top of it, some dodgy listening moments like the beginning of GOF. It's not just your copy, that's the result of this particular remastered version. The only redeemable thing is disc 2 with all the demos and radio show performances.

These images lay it out for all to see (click on them to see them bigger) : there isn't a strange thing going on during the intro of Girls On Film : there actually is audio missing compared to the original. This could never have been on the master tapes. And if the master tape had been damaged, the intro would have been easy to repair using an old (re)master. After listening to some snippets (can't actually physically stand to listen more than 30 seconds) it's clear that this remaster suffers from the same disease 7& is. Which is not all too remarkable since they went trough the same process. One advice : don't sell your original CD's or vinyl. Pretty funny that the best sounding CD version can be found on the first CD issue that one can find for really low prices.

I'm digging the rawness of the demo for Girls on Film here. Interesting stuff!
Edit: Planet Earth demo with an alternate verse at the end.

Actually, there is also a 1993-94 re-release of this album pressed in Europe that sounds great, isn't remastered, and has "To The Shore" on it as well as "ITSISK". It beats all the remasters of this album, hands down. Do you have any more info on that release ? I bought my copy in the early nineties but unlike the tracklist on the sleeve (which includes ITSISK?) the actual disc plays all songs like on the original UK vinyl so including To The Shore. And that's actually the disc I used in my pic as an example of the original mastering. About the remaster extra tracks : The demo's are very cool but I think the tracklist order is wrong. If Tel aviv was the very first song the band recorded it should be first in the tracklist. The demo's are interesting but I don't care much for those Peter Powell sessions. They almost sound identical to the album versions, except for the lead vocals. The backing vocals and harmonies appear to have been prerecorded which implies the band was playing along to a tape. And who knows what more prerecorded stuff was on that tape. Better mastered versions of the mixes are available on CD elsewhere, except for that Night Mix of Girls on Film. The version differs only in small details compared to the Night Version. But still cool to add. Too bad it's mastered so damn loud and in this case there isn't an other source available. Missed opportunities : - Girls On Film (Instrumental) - Alternative mix of To The Shore that appeared on one of the Come Undone maxi-CD's in '93 (probably by error). - Girls On Film (Night Version) is not present. But available elsewhere. -The versions of Planet Earth and Anyone Out There the band were going to release themselves as a single before they were signed. If labels for that single were already printed, the recordings themselves should exist too, but not in EMI's vaults apparently. Probably in Nick's.

I have that 1994 European CD and I'm actually listening to it while i type this and it does sound great. I'm going to use the new one as a coaster because that's all it's good for. Oh and you can find out more information about that CD here www.discogs.com/Duran-Duran-Duran-Duran/release/929579

It beats all the remasters of this album, hands down. I know exactly which one you mean, because I found it several years ago at a used CD place here in town (since closed). I bought it only for collection purposes, but I'll give it a comparative listen once the latest version arrives.
