Oh my. They need to STOP the madness now... I have already seen x-mas lights up on houses around my town. I still can't believe it is NOVEMBER! Where did the year go?

Wow, you're so lucky because we had a radio station which did the Christmas music deal on November 1st. but they stopped as a result of the complaints. I have to admit I really appreciated the Christmas music last year because it helped me deal with some deaths in my family.
do you happen to live in Michigan? we have a staion that always starts to play 100% christmas music the day after halloween
Yes, I live in SE Michigan. The stations are 100.3 WNIC and 105.1.
100.3 makes a big deal out of going all Christmas but they've been changing the date they switch over. A few years ago they changed on Nov. 1 but they must have gotten a lot of complaints about it because they waited longer the following year.
105.1, on the other hand, never used to play Christmas music, at least I don't think they did last year. In fact, I recall that they welcomed new listeners who tuned to them to avoid the holiday music on 100.3. But Christmas music = huge ratings, so I guess they're following WNIC's lead.
I like the way 101.5 in Toledo's doing it - they play 3 Christmas songs at the top of each hour and then go back to regular music.
Besides the fact it's too early for this, 100.3 tends to play the SAME holiday songs over and over and over. I think they just bought a copy of 'The Essential Now That's What I Call Christmas' and just hit the 'random track selection' button.

You know, I've often wondered about that. Why is it that there are MILLIONS of Christmas albums out there, but radio stations seem to play the same 40 songs over and over? Is it some sort of radio rule thing, you can't play a song unless it's been released as a single, or something?
Every time I go to the thrift store I see dozens of Christmas albums by tons of different artists, and I have albums put out by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, various jazz artists, etc. - why can't the radio stations play some of that music, and give "Jingle Bell Rock" a rest once in a while? With all the Christmas music released, why isn't there more variety in the songs? Does anybody know how that works?
