Let me begin by saying that Chekhov's Wig is not opening the June fan show in NYC. No one from Duran Duran has seen our MySpace profile, and no one from Duran Duran has given us late night telephone calls, breathlessly praising our versions of their songs.
Once again: Chekhov's Wig is not opening the fan show.
But what if...?
Would you like to see a short warmup set by Chekhov's Wig? Would it be the ultimate fan show gesture by the band, or would it be torture? Would you grudgingly put up with the set, or would you long for the heady days of VHS or Beta or Ima Robot?
We are not going to print this up and send it to Duran Duran, nor will we start any online petitions. Those never work, as we all hope Paris Hilton is going to learn soon. We're only posting this for fun.

I'm in, if you sing about how you're gonna steal my boyfriend (or was it sleep with my boyfriend?) and then all show me your hairy armpits.
Also you all have to wear lipgloss.

I'll be happy to whip our the hairy armpits, but I don't think I'm going to sport the lip gloss. It doesn't suit me. My bandmates, on the other hand...

Please no. Everybody please know this - I HAVE NO LIFE - Chekhov's Wig is an amateur band AT BEST. Bad musicians and and god-awful singer. Its a travesty that these guys are known for covering Duran and play fan shows. Ever hear your kid brothers band playing covers when they've only been playing their instruments about 3 months - that's Chekhov's Wig. People say it's eclectic and a re-imagining of Duran songs - read that as "we're not good enough musicians to play & sing the songs as recorded so we do them the only we can". And that ladies and gents is "badly". I am tired of this bad being heralded as a great Duran cover band. Are you all deaf? My God I got taken to a show with them and had to walk out it was so awful. Can't they screw up "Culture Club" or "Wham" instead?

Not all of us. But I'd say you are, sunshine. My God I got taken to a show with them and had to walk out it was so awful. Then you can happily stay the fuc k away from any subsequent ones. We'll miss you, but we'll manage.

Who has been heralding them as a great Duran cover band? I'll have to be having a talking to that person, for sure!
The bumping of a nearly 8-month old thread is just dumb; but since there is a little bit of timing involved here, I'd like to suggest that your opinion of Chekhov's Wig may not be the opinion shared by your fellow event-going fans.
Most of the people who know who Chekhov's Wig are know the history of the band. They're not a 'cover band', nor are they professional musicians. They're four guys who met on the former board, and then at a fan event, and decided to make some music (or noise, whichever attracts your ear). I'm not going to give my $.02 critique on them because I think my take on the band is pretty evident.
Just because you didn't get blown away by the June performance (their first, by the way) at The Baggot Inn, don't discount the dozens of people who were on their feet dancing and singing to those "re-imagined" versions of known Duran Duran songs. They received the 'mee-mo' -- it's about having a good time. Period.
And if you're taking issue with the "bad musicians" and the "god-awful singer"...well, you're clearly not singing loud enough yourself.

Can I be brutally honest? Letter to a friend t'other day:
"CW are shite, it's what happens when four of the most popular guys from the old dd.com forum get together and dust-down long forgotten instruments.... but by being shite, they’re at least original, and by being popular, no one has a bad word to say about them. Check them out ripping up Boxful of Honey in rehearsal - it's f___in' incredible - the only version I've heard of the song that I like.... out of tune charismatic singer and loud in-tune guitars, what more do you need? In summary - I cannot get enough of them - they make me like the DD songs that I don't like. In fact, they're pure genuis. I DIG THE WIG, hope you do too"
Friend seemed to like 'em well enough too.
