By now many of you have had the good fortune of having Andy Taylor respond to your messages on MySpace. So, now, has Chekhov's Wig... Andy,
We're playing our first rooftop gig in New York a month from now, and in addition to all the logistical issues of having to assemble a small stage on a slanted roof, the notion romanticized by the Beatles that the cops who come to tell you to shut up won't kick the shit out of you, the potential that we'll have dragged all our equipment up there only to get rained on, etc...we're hoping you, as a producer/musician extrordinaire can lend some advice from musical point of view.
As you'll see from the photos below, we're a bit worried about how to best avoid the music bouncing around from building to building and giving those on our roof a muddy nightmare. Likewise, we're hoping to not torment the rest of the Bowery while we play.
Bearing in mind we're using good, but not expensive, amplifiers, is there anything we can do to put out the best possible sound? Thanks,
Crispin of Chekhov's Wig Hi,
I never did a roof-top gig, U2 had that one away - but outdoors presents less problems than indoors as sound evaporates as opposed to reflecting, so my advice is to always play loud - I know traffic makes a hell of a noise in general so, loud...
Hope it comes good for ya'
