Hello my beauties...
This is a re-post from the original hotel thread with a few extra words:
I have contacted about a dozen hotels in the general area. Most wanted me to reserve a block anywhere from 6-10 rooms before any kind of special rate would be given. A few offered a basic rack-rate, but I would turn around and do a search online and find a better rate at the same hotel - f___youverymuch.
People, I am so tired of asking for things and not getting them. I am ready to go on a spree. If you see me in handcuffs on the evening news, know that I did it for the cause.
It would seem that Duran Duran actually carries very little clout. Imagine that?!
*cries a little*
Stuporfly is right, and I'm glad he was keeping you guys abreast while I spent time begging everyone under the sun for things...LOL.
I think searching the Internets is the best deal going. I seem to always do really friggin' well with Priceline. Sometimes I've gotten the "Priceline room," but I think PL has put things in place to guarantee satisfaction with the room. Even when the room wasn't great, I was generally paying $75 a night when it would have been $200, otherwise. And they've always been decent. You're in NYC; you don't need the Taj!
A quick list of recommendations:
Hotel QT - It's on 45(th) between 6th and Broadway. I'm not kidding.
The Time Hotel
The Skyline Hotel - just one avenue away...and you'd be indirectly supporting a duranie ( long story). It isn't fancy, but it was where I stayed at for the MSG show so I didn't have to go back to B'klyn.
The Edison Hotel -- again, not fancy but clean and in the middle of it all.
The Gershwin Hotel -- Stuporfly's fave. Part hotel, part hostel (options for both). Kind of across town, but still close enough.
The Belvedere Hotel - Duranie's stayed en masse for the Astronaut launch, and I know many stayed there for SBS '06. I've never heard a complaint.
Other hotels in the area include The Sheraton, The Hilton and various chains. The W Times Square is just a few blocks. We're in the middle of everything. I know Miss Murderess has stayed at the Marriott Marquis on multiple occasions.
I would highly recommend doing just as the Captain Kirk says and 'name your own price.'
Sheila
