From a headline: 'Starting tomorrow in the states of Washington and California, it will be illegal to drive a car while talking on a cell phone, unless you're using a hands-free headset.
Are you for or against this law? (whichever country you come from)

For. It's been the law here for some time and in my opinion makes sense. It's incredibly difficult to control a car (changing gears, indicating, etc...) if you've got a phone in one hand! It would make more sense to ban being on phones while driving altogether though. Accidents happen when people are on their phones because they're too busy concentrating on their conversations then on the road.

I'm absolutely for it. A person really shouldn't be doing anything that would take their concentration off of the road. (I certainly hope this law includes "texting" as well!)

Totally for! My grandma was driving in rush hour traffic in Jackson one time and we almost hit like 10 cars cos she was on the phone. It made me soooo mad!!!!

I'm not sure effecting a law is going to do any good. Even if it actually does prevent anyone from still using their mobiles, there are still 10 million other ways to distrct one's self on the road.

I'm for this. I hope this becomes a state law in Illinois. I couldn't begin to tell how many times some moron almost hit someone because they were on the cell.

For it. Even though I will break the law. I normally do not talk on my cell phone while driving, but there have been times when I have, but I do not talk on the phone when it's unsafe, ie. lots of traffic, trying to back out of a parking space into traffic & trying to talk on the phone at the same time, then give awaiting car a little hand jesture like "oops I didn't see you" . . . errr
I just seen an article on cnn.com about texting while driving. Something I'm also very guilty of. That is a bad habit of mine that should be stopped.

i am SO abso-;)ing-lutely FOR it!!!
people on cell phones while driving do NOT pay attention to what they're supposed to be doing! i've had a few morons who seem to think that talking on a cell phone 10 seconds after they've left their home is more important than watching where they're going hit me while driving..... one was a mother who had a Dodge Caravan full of kids. would have been lovely of her to have hit me...no? (this is why i don't have my phone on while in the car!!!!)
they fine you up the wazoo here in NY/NJ for driving while on a cell phone....i'm just waiting for Corzine to make it ILLEGAL to do so!!!
ETA: if you've got to be on your cell phone 2 minutes after leaving the house, pull the frickin car over and have your chat! better yet, don't leave the house!!!! it's probably cheaper to chat on your house phone than it is on a cell!!!!

Absolutely for. I wish they would pass it in Kansas and Missouri too, not that anyone around here cares about the law.
