Firstly, Warren didn't leave. Succinctly put, Simon was no longer enjoying being in the band as it was, and, while visiting John's home with Nick, after basically saying he was "done" once the tour was over, John planted the seed of the idea of the original band reuniting... They had apparently once tried to get the band back together in 1991/2, but the idea at that time was to have both Warren and Andy on guitar - one of the guitarists would not entertain the idea of sharing the stage with the other (any guesses?), so they already knew this time that it would have to be Andy only, so Simon wrote a long letter to Warren, in essence telling him, "it's no longer working out; it's either end the band or reunite it, so Andy's back in and you're out"... IMO, while I can understand just how depressed Simon had become, the way Warren was dismissed was handled completely wrongly... He did get a share of the royalties from Astronaut as part of his severance pay, but who knows how much or how little that ended up being?... Another question--did they buy him out?
I have the bootleg dvd of the Japan '03 show and before each song, even the ones from the Wedding Album, it had the names of all 5 original guys.
On a side note-back in '06 when I went to NOLA for the Voodoo fstival, my buddies and I went into a sex shop and they DID have a Rock Rod.
Ok how can I put this kindly.....
.....if the cashier lady, when she took a look at the RR when it as out of the box, said EW!---then u can only imagine!
The dang thing was a creamy off white almost clearish color. Pretty scary!

My impression was that was just a mistake or misunderstanding on the Japan network's account. I don't think that Warren signed away his rights to any DD songs or his writing credits as a result of him leaving. My impression was that part of Astronaut's earnings would serve as a "financial settlement" with him if anything. Not sure about any other agreement they made with him though, so who knows?

sounds like an error .. foreign networks for any band sometimes get the titles screwed up. English is not the first language. I have seen it many. many times where the titles of the songs are even wrong! So the rock rod and its....um, inspiration?...are nasty looking, you say? Interesting to know...not surprised though. Yeah I get ya!
When they posted WHT, they spelled it What Happenens Tomorrow!
Was the Rock Rod suppossed to be flesh toned? Cuz the one I touched wasn't!
My friends and I joked that they must have left it out of its box for far too long or close to the window where it got sun bleached! hahahahaah

Dunno about any updates? Haven't read/heard anything
Must say I Would love WC back tho, (in some form or another). It's intriguing to think what might evolve from such studio sessions.
I liked Warren, it comes down to having had the desire to stay in DD, including the fact being that he contributed to way more DD studio LPs than Andy did. WC never left DD once let alone a second time.
If I was only interested in the first 3 commercially successful LPs including the 4th (which we got in 2004), I probably wouldn't be here still visiting this board.
TBF I'm way more interested in the DD contributive anthology and that includes every LP DD ever released and not just the first 3 while DD were massively popular.

Only problem is that 2 of the current members can’t stand working with WC so that will not happen. The WC years after TWA were the nadir of their carreer.
Compare We Need You’s lyrics to Who Do You Think You Are. And the latter was written when he was in the band even. Don’t think SlB ever wants to be bossed around again.

My take on the whole thing was that either Simon or Nick or both started to realize that the band was becoming more Warren's band than anything and started to freak out. In order to get rid of WC and all the baggage he brought with him, I think the whole reunion ting was concocted. Whether Andy stayed or left was probably going to be no big deal since AT was a wildcard. I'm sure that if they hadn't gone in the direction of RCM, Andy probably would have stuck around.

Don’t think SlB ever wants to be bossed around again. well, Warren started out in Frank Zappa's band, where the band were employed and paid musicians and Zappa was the boss...so maybe Warren started to feel that way and steer the band into the direction he wanted. especially if Simon had a writer's block, while Warren could just mess around half naked with his guitar and come up with a hit (Come Undone came to life while he was messing with the First Impression riff) I still can't decide if I like the last albums with Warren or not. But I take both WC's and AT's inputs as a history or a progress and I try to be thankful what the current lineup has to offer - which might not be much, but maybe better than weekly jams released on Bandcamp.

Thats an interesting way to look at it Then by implication you're suggesting that all 4 current members don't want Andy back considering the bands 2006 statement released at the time was "we have come to an UNWORKABLE GULF with AT" (or something to that affect. Or shall we just ignore the bands statement coming from the four of them and wrongly blame Nick like some still do. I'll take WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE over WE NEED YOU anyday. Personally I love both lyrics and a groove, it's the whole package for me and not just a lyric thing. Mum always taught me there's always something to like, however small or big & especially when love is already in place. You have compared a song DD never thought good enough to stick on an LP compared to one which the DD name did stick on an album. Im sure if they had Steve Ferrone and Nile on WNY it would have been way more appealing to me. Heres the thing, Secret October (B side version) does Jack shite for me, it's nick and Simon and that's it. YET !!! The live versions (late 90s) with Waren on it, SLB baring his soul, the esoteric percussive effects and NRs sonic treatments included DO IT FOR ME EVERYTIME. its ok that were different, for me it's a lyric thing but an atmosphere and feel thing with a little sensuality thrown in too and I guess that's what I'm trying to say. Cant help elm but think I wonder what WC could have done with WNY live? For what ever reason DD have NEVER chosen to play it ? Thing is I want a full sound. TBH be honest I'd like to see both WC & AT back (in some form) but I can't see it happening so with that said I'd be happy to see AT back BUT (common sense) when tacking into account his past (leaving/deserting the band) history, I can't see him staying/handing around either. The FACT remains however (weather people like it or not) that WC HAS contributed to more studio LPs than AT ever did !

Yes but 1981-85 is what the legend is built on...
They are both great guitarists and we all prefer one or the other, nuff said.
