given how negative he was - selling his collection et al -what makes you think its going to pro duran... I didn't take his selling of his collection or brief comments as particularly negative. Would be silly to expend the energy on an anti-Duran site (we're talking about a band/music.....it's not like this is politics or something). Just doesn't sound like something Klaus would do. I like the suggestions that maybe something changed now that Duran are off of Sony. Could be that the band is getting back in control again. Everything about RCM brought out the cynic in me, but so far - I'm optimistic about how they're proceeding at the moment. Just hope there's less hype from the band when it comes time to release the material. Stay out of the music's way and let it speak for itself. If it's good - no need to point that out....it'll do that on it's own.

Sony had nothing to do with the site closing, so no, it's not down to that.

Sony had nothing to do with the site closing, so no, it's not down to that. So was it Duran's lawyers that made the threats? Actually, now that I think about it - that's probably more likely. I doubt Sony could care less given Duran's lackluster sales.

What most people don't understand about Klaus' return is that his new website will be completely devoted to the Doobie Brothers.

What most people don't understand about Klaus' return is that his new website will be completely devoted to the Doobie Brothers. LOL. Well....nothin' wrong with that but there are no Taylors in de band. They're touring the states this summer. Buddy of mine wants to see them.

The only thing I'd hate to see would be the sale of of bootlegs for personal gain. Donations for the running of such a site would be acceptable because the fans would certainly gain from it as well. Trading, B&P offers, and such are certainly not a problem as long as the original source is preserved. If people want to convert it themselves for personal use that is just as okay. It becomes a problem with said source when people who receive it in a compromised format then trade it off or sell it as original....it pollutes the wonderful pool of bootleg DD material that is out there that the band is okay with. That is why I thought the Lossless section for this board was a good start in that direction. I've not purchased anything from Klaus and only asked on prices for legit stuff from his collection that might have been a duplicate. I hung with him on the "Ole" FTP back in the day with duranicub and I had a wonderful time communicating and sharing what folks were looking for. Seeing Klaus return in a positive and fan-based way would be a great asset to the community. The band know for the most part what's out there and what's not....I don't want to give them any reason to become the "Metallica Against Our Fans" band. Other than just saying that i have no idea what's actually going to happen with the site (before anyone else emails me to ask), i'm still somewhat bemused by the perception that dd.no was a money making concern; aka there was 'personal (financial) gain'... Well, simply as i saw the actual figures (& evidence for them) back when things were being submitted to the lawyers (who never responded to anything btw), the actual costs for keeping the site up & running for the 7-8 years prior to it going (hosting, domain fees, extra storage, payment for emergency rebuild costs, equipment post the fire, etc) was somewhere in excess of 5000USD based on today's NOK-USD exchange rate... ...whereas the total that was received as 'donations' over the whole time was 280USD. i mean that 280USD would only just have cover the costs of prizes & shipping back when the Jeannie competition happened - not forgetting the odd freebies (ie things sent as favours at my own cost) that i posted out to people on occasion & prizes i've got sat here for the competition that didn't happen (firstly d.t. time & then the fire & then the site went) or whatever. Well, the sad fact is that generally people aren't prepared to donate to help to cover costs when they can get things for free - so i'm not sure how something could be more 'fan-based' than someone paying out of their own pocket as (esp) Klaus did; plus, of course, the time & effort that everyone who took the time to email us about something they'd found or whatever put in. As i've said before i'm sure, i'm not suggesting that people should have to pay for any bootleg (beyond perhaps blanks & postage) & obviously my role in stuff (be it on dd.no or working on the odd DVD for Dime with Tm or...) has always been about making things accessible for free to help stop profiteering, but my point is that the only 'personal gain' that i can actually see was through the great people who we came into contact with via the site - either through friendships or by helping dd.no be what it was. Yeah, obviously i'd like to see the site come back if at all possible - my involvement largely being dependent on there being some *sensible* (well the demands of their lawyers made it impossible for the site to be about D2) clear cut rules given by Katy or whoever beforehand as to what is & isn't allowed so that there's not a repeat situation - as, whilst i'm obviously putting the odd thing up here, it's all having to be a bit circumspect & there are unfortunately things that are not making it on here as i need to continue to watch my back for a bit... Not denigrating this place at all of course as (esp) something like the lossless section is a great idea, but dd.no was home...
