I think your'e perfectly entitled to your opinion. I do get the Blondie comment actually as well. It hasn't grown on me just yet either (but I don't hate it). I don't see why people are saying that you can't be Duran a fan and not like one song or even more than one song. I love Duran Duran's music, but even I really do not like some of their songs, e.g: Drowning Man/UMF/To Whom It May Concern/Lava Lamp/Hallucinating Elvis/Bedroom Toys are some examples (albeit absolutely shocking ones!!). Will somebody please set-up a new thread about me. I need to be infamous too! ALSO, ARE PEOPLE ONLY REALLY GONNA LIKE THIS NEW ALBUM IF IT SOUNDS LIKE THE DEBUT / RIO? COS IT IS NOT GOING TO - THOSE TWO ALBUMS WILL NEVER (I REPEAT) NEVER BE MATCHED BY DURAN (OR ANY OTHER)! HEE HEE HEE

Perhaps never be matched, but if they can come close then I'll be a very happy man.

I'm hoping this is the start of a new chapter for the band, they're right not to be taking risks, but unless they receive support from their core fanbase then they may as well just pack up. This is an album aimed to re-establish the band in people's minds, if successful then I'm also hoping they can develop the relationship with Ronson and with the shackles thrown off then that's when there'll be another truly classic album. If this album is leaned towards the first Lp/Rio sound then maybe they'll try the Ragged Tiger era with the sax/horns and who better than Ronson to pilot that?

In my mind it's not about the band trying to capture the SOUND of their debut album or Rio, it's about them trying to capture the QUALITY of their first two albums. Rio is one of the few records I have ever heard where every track, or almost every track, would be considered good enough to release.
Many albums contain some killer tracks/singles, but way too much filler (think Liberty and The Wedding Album) while other albums have no filler but no real killer tracks either (Astronaut). Duran Duran and Rio are the rare exceptions where they contain little to no filler, but also plenty of killer songs as well. And that is what I hope for from the new album. From the snippets we have heard so far I'm thinking it is leaning more towards the "consistent" Astronaut mode, because nothing has really grabbed me so far. The snippets have been decent and quite fun to date, but whether they'll make my life feel lost without them is hard to say at this stage. I'm hoping the next couple of snippets just make me go "WOW, I LOVE that song" rather than just make me nod my head and say "yeah not too bad".

the drum roll of "Being Followed" is a bit similar to the other track they posted called "Runway" and also the introductory part is almost similar to "Blame the Machine"...I think there is a pattern in the songwriting technique.

It sounds pretty good to me. Sorry, NoMercy, but I am truly EXCITED about the new album. I do not want them to sound anything like Lady Gaga or some of the other crap that is on the raidio these days.
We should all be happy that they are still making music. Cant wait to see them again live, soon I hope

Duran Duran were at their best and most successful on Duran Duran/Rio, so why not try and recreate the sound of those records? Seems the logical thing to me. Also, it's what the majority of the fans want.

You can't expect them to make carbon copies of possibly two of their greatest albums 30 years on surely? If they were so easy to copy or imitate those albums wouldn't be as special or as great as they are. We have only heard about 60secs of one completed mixed song and a bunch people seem to be throwing their toys out of the pram already. From what little we heard i think it sounds extremely promising. If the rest want to whinge cos it's what they do best then go ahead.

I'm looking forward to the new album because I understand why they and Mark Ronson are tuning into the 1st and Rio album vibe. In my opinion it's because RCM went so far away from the root of Duran Duran that they want to touch base again, and from there for next time they can do something different.
Since the reunion we haven't felt that the material has been as good as it could have been. In my opinion Astronaut wasn't as edgy or guitar based as I wanted it to be with Andy back in the band, and the album didn't have the killer tracks to re-connect them with the public. So they tried a different tac with Reportage which failed so miserably that they were forced to have the dramatic change of direction that resulted in RCM.
Most of us didn't think RCM was the type of album Duran should be making, but at least they tried it. And now All You Need Is Now is sounding to me like a good direction to go in right now. I'm with them, and I for one can't wait!
