Do you think DD will ever release the demo song "Seven and the Ragged Tiger"? Now that the reissues have passed, i am beginning to lose hope. I love this song and I'd love to hear it in better quality.

This would be superb, but I have doubts that a decent demo quality copy could be found.

I believe that Nick has stated that there isn't a decent recording of that songs in existence- does beg the question though- what happened to all that stuff they did in the earky Ragged Tiger sessions??

I think the only hope is if they re-record it properly, but (even if they were interested) they'de probably run into rights issues with EMI Music Publishing?

I'm a bit confused!?
The only version I ever heard of 'Seven & The Ragged Tiger' was around a few years back and was a great track, but with pretty poor sound quality. However, the whole thing died on its backside when John came out and said that it was a very good fake!? Is there another version about somewhere or are we talking about the same thing?

^ yep, what randal said. i actually got a copy of the demos just to hear how ridiculous they sounded, and wow. the song itself though, like you said, is a separate thing and sounds legit.
i still don't get why someone went through all the trouble to record fake demos!

I would really like to hear a cleaned up version of the SATRT song. In fact, I remember reading a few years back that this album was actually recorded 3 times and a "heavier" version of the album exists. I guess we have more than just Reportage that needs to be released, huh?

The right speed for THAT version but basically, its Seventh Stranger, listen to both back to back and you'll catch what I mean. Seems to be the same chord progressions, same lyrical breaks, just a little faster than the final version was. Randal is right on. It is the same structure, but at a quicker tempo than the album version, and based around a strummed acoustic guitar (might even be Simon playing it) with Andy's flamenco style acoustic leads thrown in, as opposed to the synth driven later incarnation (much like how The Chauffeur evolved from the "Blue Silver" acoustic demo to the synth masterpiece it became on RIO). I think the "slow it down" point was refering to the fact that most versions of the 7ATRT demo floating around are from either a tape or vinyl source that was incorrectly sped (and by definition also pitched) up, making Simon sound like a chipmunk and leading some to doubt its authenticity (though to me, even on first listen, it clearly sounded like Simon even in chipmunk mode). If you slow (and pitch) it down, it becomes clearly identifiable as authentic.

The demo actually makes me hear Seventh Stranger differently. I might have to actually listen to SATRT tonight... 7th Stanger is a song that I have kind of a hot/cold relationship with (we fight sometimes, but the makeup sex is amazing )! Seriously, though, I listen to it far less than most of the rest of that album, but once in while it fits the mood perfectly! I still think that "a year of Sundays seems to've drifted right by, I could have sworn, in one evening" is one of Simon's best lyrics. It evokes, for me, a very sentimental melancholy musing on the nature (and perception) of time.
