While trying to find whichever of my D2 records has "when in doubt, flange it" etched into the matrix area (still haven't found it - gonna check my 7"s), I did come across "Shake your dotie groove thaaag" (I'm assuming it probably was meant to say "thaang," but "thaaag" it is) on the A-side of my My Own Way UK 12." Everyone who owns it should check theirs - I'm curious to see how common it might be!
Edit: The only unique hand etched message I found among my 45s is, interestingly, also for the UK release of My Own Way, and in the same block style writing as the 12", but this time it says "Think 54" (as in Studio 54 I'm guessing).

My UK 7" of Girls on Film has the A side etching of "Utopia" with the word "Kev" also etched near it. On the B side the initials MJ are etched. The Careless Memories 7" also has "Utopia" on the A side, whilst on the B side it has what appears to be a lyre. The shape of the lyre is used as the "U" in both etchings of utopia. Planet Earth also has the lyre symbol etched and then the words Rum Runner on the A side. The B side has the lyre symbol as well, but I can't make out the letters that follow it.

Many of my early UK singles have the "Utopia" w/ the lyre as well. I'm betting it stands for Utopia studios, where some of the album was recorded. Maybe EMI has (or had) a mastering or pressing plant there. Many of the later singles have "Townhouse" machine printed on them, which I'd bet is another mastering/pressing location. No "Rum Runner" on any of my Planet Earth copies - jealous!

Just looked. My Planet Earth also has Rumrunner on the A side and then 'the lyre' JEFF on the B side. And it never occurred to me that the Utopia and the lyre was for Utopia Studios...even though I lived across the road from it ...didn't know much about it at the time!
HLTW B-side has NICKZ...
Yeh i have STUDIO 54 on my own way and a few with ARUN.
Wild Boys with the Nick cover has MASTERDISK RL stamped in

Great. One more thing I will have to look for whenever I can get around to making my inventory. I desperately need to do it, but things are everywhere in boxes here and there. Ah, well, now I know there is more to look for. OK, so question about PE and GOF UK 12" singles. Has anyone noticed if there is a difference in the etching between the copies with the thicker paper sleeves and those with the thinner paper? If so, that could be a good way for me to check with sellers to know which copies they are selling.
