Hidden Tracks? Finding “Virus” & “Beautiful Colours”
Hi Katy, “Virus” and “Beautiful Colours” – I am completely in enamored with these two songs. I would love to be able to buy it on either iTunes or the Duran Duran website, as am sure so do many other Duranies. I have reviewed past comments on this topic dating back to 2004/06 about adding these songs to an album. Many years later we now have iTunes and your website where we can purchase to download. Can you please ask the band members if and when this could be a possibility? I am a life long Duranie since 1981 and have enjoyed each experience of their music. Helene – Melbourne, Australia
“Hello Helene. “Virus” seems to be available on iTunes, at least in certain countries. It was a bonus track on some International versions of the ASTRONAUT album. However, “Beautiful Colours” is not available because it was never included in any of the official releases. We felt, at that time, that there was room for improvement, so we decided not to release it. Somehow, in this digital world, it is difficult to hide things in the vault, so we’re aware a version of the song is floating around in the cyber-ether. There are no plans, right now, to make it officially available. The Band”

I have a version of Beautiful Colours that sounds great as is. And it is one of the best tracks the band have written since the reunion.
Surprises me that the band felt there was some room for improvement, yet just shelved it instead. Did they feel it had no potential so it wasn't worth completing? (Yet they felt most of the other tracks on Astronaut and RCM, the majority of which were inferior to Beautiful Colours, WERE worthy of completion?)
Oh well, looks like we'll sadly never get an official version. But I'm happy here sitting back listening to the current one, just like I am with the other great Astronaut demos that somehow weren't polished and didn't make it on to the album.

Virus is included on the Japanese cd version of Astronaut and Beautiful Colours was played on the 2004 UK tour almost every night. I personally never understood why the song Lonely Business never made it on Astronaut.

For me 'Astronaut' is the weakest DD album. Only 'Still Breathing' comes out with any credit. How songs such as 'Salt In The Rainbow', 'Beautiful Colours and 'Virus' weren't included on the final version of the album remains a mystery.

Love Beautiful Colours. It would be really interesting for DD to "revisit" some of the tracks they thought were "unfinished"; but I suppose that could cause all sorts of legal difficulties.

As has been said every 3 months for the last 10 years on this forum, the band were barmy not to issue Beautiful Colours, i mean they played it every damn night, couldn't they finish it as they played it? Still don't understand their attitude not to issue it either. Oi Duran - you lot are bloody mad!

Well, it's a bit perplexing when you consider that they "gave" the song to some football club over in England:
Yet they don't feel it's worthy of an actual release?

Beautiful Colours - best DD song since 2003. No improvement necessary.
