But the 'official' version hasnt been released anywhere has it? The demo is on the dd fanclub cd but not that video version?

I seem to recall that there was some discussion some time ago that the music that's in the video differs somewhat from the demo. It's a shame the person who uploaded the video can't post the whole video.

The live version of Beautiful Colours was amazing with Andy's muscular riff coming to the fore. I couldn't believe it when I heard the weak, watered down demo version with Andy's riff being replaced by some electronic nonsense. Yep, the live version was classic Duran Duran - vintage Andy Taylor power chords in the verse, followed up with gentler, melodious chords in the chorus. But sadly (and not for the first time) the studio version I heard couldn't quite capture the great live sound, and even though I love the song and still really enjoy the studio version because it has such a great melody, it is a little too electronic for my liking. Maybe that's why they couldn't agree that it was finished or not; conjecture over the final mix??? <OPEN CAN OF WORMS> It's no wonder an "unworkable gulf" developed; I'd be miffed too if every time I wrote a great guitar part which sounded brilliant live, it was then covered up beyond recognition after being mixed in the studio. Not trying to exonerate Andy or claim he's the saviour of the band (I actually prefer Dom's songwriting after listening to AYNIN), just throwing an observation out there <CLOSE CAN OF WORMS> Oh yeah I so agree with that!

I think the demo already excisted before their UK 2004 tour, so the 'the weak, watered down demo version' was replaced by the stronger live version. I saw them in 2003 in Auckland and I heard the demo way later. You could be right though, but the main point I was getting at is the demo version truly sux.

Truly sux? I think not. Poor yes, but they developed it. Gosh, I'm imagining a rock version of Beautiful Colours and really liking it. Has anyone got it live?? PM me.

Take Shotgun off The Wedding Album for example. I haven't read John Taylor's book (yes I know I am a heathen, albeit a poor heathen who hasn't saved up for the book yet) but I believe it stated that Shotgun came about because John Jones made a comment about John and Amanda having a shotgun wedding, and it was John's way of saying "and proud of it". So there was a reason the band (or John at least) wanted Shotgun on The Wedding Album. And it turned out being a silly, minute long piece of music that was ultimately forgettable. I'm sure that most people who bought the album (and the band did attract quite a few new fans back then thanks to Ordinary World and Come Undone) didn't listen to Shotgun and think "Wow, I wonder what the band's intentions and reasoning for including that incredibly interesting piece of music were"; instead most probably thought "Well I'll skip this one to get to Come Undone". Instead of including a one minute piece of filler they could have put on Matter Of Fact, or Falling Angel, or Stop Dead, or Time For Temptation, or ANYTHING better than Shotgun. Keep in mind too that it was supposedly John's idea to record '911 is a Joke' for Thank You, just to see how many people they could piss off (or something along that wording). In fact, he mentioned in his book that he felt his parts were too high at times, enough to the point that it was interfering with Simon's vocals. Also, a lot of the live versions of songs from 2003 to 2006 had a more prominent guitar anyway. If we had heard the demo or studio version before we heard the live version, we might be considering things differently as a result. Truly sux? I think not. Poor yes, but they developed it. That's what I liked about Mark Ronson. He had the guts to tell the band what they needed to hear, and the album shone as a result. Yes there are still a couple of dodgy tracks and stupid instrumentals that have no place on the album, but overall AYNIN is Duran's best record in 25 years. well, I don't think quite so highly about AYNIN and Ronson's saviour role. 'Too Bad You're So Beautiful' features too many cooks in the composition department for a track so bland, and it doesn't really sound 'Rio' DD at all. and I'm very sorry Simon accepted Ronson's and Nick's 'Girl Panic' idea and didn't go through with his 'Pale Blue Planet' one. too many songs on AYNIN are like Astronaut's, only done better. as far as the instrumentals go, Coolbarn, I know your idiosincrasy about them, but I really love DD's instrumentals and interludes - they make the albums breathe and pace towards the next track. I'm an album guy. I wouldn't enjoy Come Undone half as much if it wasn't led into by 'Shotgun', which I really like in its own right for Warren's crazy guitars and Simon's 'Princeiana' vox. yeah, I also hope they don't overcook the meal this time, but habits die hard. we'll see.

When the album leaked out in in late '91, the running order was: Too Much Information Ordinary World Love Voodoo Drowning Man Shotgun Stop Dead Breath After Breath U.M.F. None of the Above Time For Temptation Shelter To Whom It May Concern Sin of the City Yes, Come Undone is a great song, but it shouldn't have bumped any songs off the album as a CD can hold up to 79 minutes of music - I'm sure they could have found an appropriate spot on the album to place it. Their decision to include Femme Fatale was a mistake - it just doesn't fit on the album and they should have just held off and put it on Thank You (the Japanese pressing has it on there as a bonus track). With Stop Dead on the album, the "shotgun" sound at the beginning of Stop Dead kinda makes sense coming out of "Shotgun" - the two songs fit.

And thats a better album! For me 'A Matter of Fact' doesnt sound very early 90s, i think it sounds like a 'notorious' era track - anyone agree? Now that you mention it, I agree! 'Matter of Fact' doesn't really sound like it would have fit on TWA. Maybe if it had been polished a bit more or if the tempo and had been fiddled with, it could have worked. But as it stands, it seems too... mellow (maybe?) compared to the rest of that album.
