I like Dom, and thought he did an amazing job on AYNIN. So I was really looking forward to seeing what he could bring to DD14. But this is the best Duran Duran pre-album news since the reunion! Frusciante is a brilliant guitarist, songwriter and harmonist. I hope his involvement is for more than just one or two tracks - give him time with the band and he could produce some exciting/beautiful guitar pieces the likes of which we haven't seen from Duran for years. (Hey even better - bring the funk King Nile back and combine him with the funk Prince Frusciante and we could have a funky album better than Notorious ever was ) I am so excited and relieved to see Duran working with a seasoned pro like Frusciante, whose style would suit Duran's down to the ground. A lot more excited than them working with young hip-hop artists, that's for sure. And as a huge Chili Peppers fan I am looking forward to seeing how JF's playing style compares with the way he played with RHCP. Is he going to pursue a funk vein like he did on much of the Chilis stuff, or will he go bluesy, or for a more atmospheric approach? Will the tracks that Frusciante plays on be guitar-based, or will he just add suitable chords to enhance the song? I much prefer Duran's music when they take a rock-based approach (ala the debut album) over an electronic one (ala RCM), so I hope the Frusciante tracks kick arse. And hopefully he and his playing style will really gel with the band; it would be a real shame to see JF's guitar parts end up on the cutting room floor as well.

Well Andy is no picnic when he tries to do OW live...lol
Warren was the best there...but check how bad this is...
check out 3:34 Andy butchers the solo..good beginning but nobody could copy Warren but Andy is good live where Warren is more technical...

John does make the guitar talk...even if he is on a few Duran songs that would be great!!

I love Dom's work with DD but this news gives the band the best chance of adding some rock cred to an album since Warren took the reins for OW and CU. As long as they don't blow it again by being coked out of their minds and having ideas like thinking covering 911 Is A Joke is a great idea they could be onto a winner!!!

As details come out about the work on DD14, the more excited I’m getting about hearing the end results. First, recording choirs on a couple of tracks, then collaborating with Mr. Hudson on a track or two. Now guitar work coming from the impressive John Frusciante. Let’s just hope they can stay focused without a producer and get the album out by the end of the year.

This really is the best news I've heard in ages, and I agree with what coolbarn said. My two top funkiest white bands are RHCP and DD, so any collab would be great. John F is probably way to busy to join the band full time as he does love his solo experiments, but comparing John F to Dom is not even remotely possible. I hoped Dom would add something for the band to explore, just as Warren did in the middle years, but after my Where is Dom? campaign he seems to have dropped out completely. My feeling is John F will be awesome in whatever he does; although listening to that easy listening track above I do hope he hasn't gone completely down the blues route to not be rocky anymore. Of course my best recommendation is to lock JT and Flea in a room together until they come up with something like Battle of the Duelling Basses. That would be mind blowing.

here's one. how about they work with no one and we just hear the 4 guys we love best! Collabs always bring fresh ideas, and arguably their best material has been a collab with someone. Like OW was a collab with a great final mix producer, Reflex was Nile, The Wild Boys would not have happened without Russell Mulcahy. AVTAK hit was a collab with John Barry. The list goes on. I know if I was a 50 something rock star I'd be keen to get some energy back into the business, because I can tell you as a video editor, working with existing people on a project too long can get claustrophobic.
