Chalk this up to a HUGE error!! The Moody Blues failed to make the grade despite selling more than 71 million albums worldwide and being awarded 14 platinum and gold discs, while chart-topping songs like The Reflex, The Wild Boys and Hungry Like A Woolf were all overlooked.

Too funny but come on if not for Ordinary World--that song won an award for Simon's writing for Pete's sake...lol
I think Novello Award?

As a Brummie born and bred- and someone who was lucky enough to have seen DD at The Rum Runner, It never ceases to amaze me how they are snubbed by their home city. No star on the Broad Street 'Walk of fame', nothing to mark the spot of The Rum Runner and no attempt to save The Crown pub where DD and UB40 rehearsed from developers. I can think of no other city in the world that would that would treat home grown world stars in this way. Shame on us.

When I went to Dubin, Ireland, they had 2 things that impressed me:
1) a wall of fame that was essentially a building and in the windows were huge photos of Irish artists. Amazing!!
2) there was a "walk" you could actually do around the city and spots were marked by records with the artist and what made that spot musically historic.
With Birmingham, a similar thing could be done as the walk tour in Dublin, marking where the Rum Runner was, The Crown Pub, as neilukduranie mentioned, and other spots from these historic groups. I was rather disappointed when I visited Birmingham in the fact that there was nothing to show about these amazing musical acts that have been so influential. At the time, there was only one star and that was Ozzy's. It is a shame that they don't embrace their musical history and really make the town proud of what has come from it. Granted, I was thrilled to be there...like I'd made a prilgrimage to the holy ground, but I wish there had been more. I got a pic of the general area where the Rum Runner was was would've liked to see a mark of some sort. Embracing all of the musicians over the decade would really make the town a point of interest to visit for anyone visiting the UK!
On a side note, I was thrilled to have discovered that I took a picture of a memorial in the City Centre and it was the same one Duran posed on in the early days. Had I known that beforehand, I would've had my friend take a pic of me on it. lol

I met my wife at a Duran Duran concert back in 1998 and was happy to find out that she was from and lived in Birmingham. As a lifelong DD fan I never planned to live in Birmingham, but it's funny how things worked out.
I always thought that when I moved to Birmingham, it would be a city that was proud of Duran Duran. I have lived here now for 16 years and it is sad to admit that this city doesn't really have any great fondness for the band. They don't have a star on the "Broad Street Walk Of Stars", which is just criminal. People also tend to give you strange looks when you mention being a DD fan.
It also pains me that you bump into LOTS of people who love UB40. I never have understood the appeal of a band who basically used the same backing track on pretty much every song. They had a formula and stuck to it, never taking any risks. DD on the other hand have never been scared to try different sounds and styles.

What about Ozzy and Black Sabbath? Aren't they from Birmingham? Sad to say Duran should be honored with at least a Star...they put Birmingham on the map for us Americans--lol!

Yes they are andre. Like I said, Ozzy Osbourne had the honor of the first star on the walk of fame in Birmingham.
I understand what you're saying, secondalibi. When I went there, I was like, "Where's all the Duran stuff?" Yeah...that wasn't the case. My prized souvenir from there was a Christmas ornament from Selfridges that says I (heart) Birmingham. Lol.
