Obviously Robert Palmer had a massive solo hit with 'Addicted To Love', and as far as I know Andy played guitar on the track.
What I am trying to find out is whether or not the song was originally going to be a Power Station song? Some people have suggested that the song was something Robert Palmer had been working on before and during the recording sessions for the Power Station album, and some go as far to say it was even recorded by Power Station. The story then goes that Robert decided to save the song for his solo album and wouldn't let the band use it.
This is a strange one, because the song sounds very much like a Power Station song, it has that feel.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

I've never heard of that rumor before. In terms of having that particular 'sound', having two of the four members on vocals and guitar will usually result in that, combined with some certain production values that were popular in the mid-80's!
Someone on here or the old DD.com board tried suggesting at one time that some of the songs on Pop Trash had John playing bass or originated from old demos with him involved. Katy and another source came on the record as saying they knew nothing of it.

Both of his singles, "Addicted to Love" and "Simply Irresistible," sound Power Station-esque to me.

wasn't the band on that record basically bernard, tony and andy with some other musos added in? and bernard was also the producer...
and i am pretty sure all the songs were written in the sessions. i guess robert could have had the ideas for lyrics around, but the songs proper were written at the time the record was made. the album was made at compass point studios in the bahamas well after the PS record was recorded.

I remember an interview with Robert in 1986 where it was put to him that he had borrowed Th Power Station sound, he rather dismissively replied 'they borrowed my sound' and you can hear that in his two earlier albums.

Andy Taylor wasn't the only guitar player on Addicted To Love. There was also Eddie Martinez. As a matter of fact, after reading this article I wonder what Andy actually played. Would be interesting to know : Who played what guitar parts on Addicted To Love (cfr American Science). Also intresting to know is that Martinez was apparently re-introduced to Robert Palmer at The Power Station studio ! One of the last live performances of ATL actually was with Andy Taylor. Robert Palmer was playing in Japan in 2003 and this coincided with the very first reunion concerts Duran Duran played there, hence Andy's presence.
