I must be such a die hard I knew all of these already. Except: "The verses were adapted from an early Duran Duran song called “See Me Repeat Me"" - I'm sorry, but what have the lyrics to SMRM got in common with Rio? NOTHING! SMRM goes on about a guy catching trains and being on rails and Rio is about a girl on the sand. In fact "I've seen him before, In a catalogue, in a factory." has more in common with "pinup on a factory wall" from El Presidente!

The press know squat other than to repeat quotes and soundbytes - see them, repeat them, oh-oh.. I'm not sure if they were referring to strictly the lyrics here. If they were referring to the tempo or vibe of the verses instead, then the description they gave would probably be accurate.

yes, tempo and vibe, totally agree. Sorry. I confused Verse with Spoken Word, but a verse is just a direction in a river of sound.

And to be honest, I've seen this type of thing a lot on other sites too. In terms of writing or credits for a song, it can get a bit confusing! In fact, I came across a video for Come Undone not too long ago, and two fans had an argument in the comments section over who wrote the song. One fan claimed it was Warren and the other one said something like, "That is absolutely NOT true! Simon wrote it as a birthday gift for Yasmin!" I had to laugh because it didn't occur to them that it was actually both!

The verse music for See Me Repeat Me (later renamed Ami a Go Go) eventually turned into the verse music for Rio, with a big change in overall feel. The chorus of Rio uses the same chords as Stevie's Radio Station by Andy Wickett's previous band TV Eye
