Although I think the TY album has some strong tracks on it, I hate to admit that the editor is right... White Lines IS better imo.
And besides that... If the TY project was DD's attempt to pay homage to their hero's, where the hell is Chic, Roxy music, Kraftwerk but to name a few on the album? I bet Warren came up with at least half the tracks on it. Don't get me wrong, Warren contributed a lot (especially in sour times) but he was trying to change the band into something they obviously are not. I recall Simon mentioning something about the increasing tension when it came down to the creative process when working with Warren.

I also think that '911' was not their best choice, but Duran's cover of 'White Lines' still sounds absolutely brillinat to me! I also agree with what you have mentioned about Warren. IMO, his behaviour became more & more weird, but to me obviously not before the very late 90s.

Warren actually addressed a question regarding the song choices for Thank You on his FB chat recently. This was his answer...
"thank you by led zep was one of mine...we all wanted to do crystal ship. that really surprised me."
I can't remember the exact specifics of who came up with the idea of a covers album, but the project did seem to snowball out of the Femme Fatale cover they did for TWA. In terms of songs choices, it seemed to range all over the place. Simon and John were inspired to start doing White Lines live after buying a cassette with the original showing up on it. 911 was John's idea.
