Skinburn, i am sorry if you felt the need to explain yourself. I always think that if one thinks it is worth to him/her then who are other people to judge! It is your money and you should enjoy it in any way you want and can. As with this book, i see some similarity in 'discussion' as back then with the AYNIN 5-record boxset.
Congrats on your purchase!

DD and O'Regan never considered who their customers for this book would be. They seriously overestimated the pulling power of DD to the general public and I think they simply pressumed the fans all would automatically buy the book. Well, while I might spend up to, say, GBP 100, for a luxurious box set book of Duran Duran, I too would have thought that worldwide there'd be several hundreds of hardcore fans with the purchasing power and willingness to spend these amounts on a collectible. > They didn't think for one moment that the price (GBP 250 for the cheapest copy...) is ridiculously expensive for 30 year old pics that O'Regan just had to digg up in the archives. Well, in his defense, they did have to restore many of the negatives. See the video. Anyway, I hope at some point they'll be offered at a lower price because I'm currently not tempted -- all the more since the best pictures are included already in the Sing Blue Silver books, of which there have been two nice, separate editions to collect : ) I'd be more included if these books had lots of Assorted iMaGes artwork in them, like the SBS books and The Book of Words but Malcolm Garrett was barely involved with this one (see his tweet on my Twitter timeline). Perhaps it's time someone poked Dean Chamberlain with this suggestion. But before we do that, the sales numbers better rack up a bit more impressively...

If they are selling the books at a reduced price in the future everyone who bought one at full price will demand a refund so I don't see that happening...

The book hasn't yet been marketed to Joe Public, so I don't honestly think it will take long to sell, especially with Christmas around the corner. I'm by far from rich but I wanted to own one thing by Duran that was very special. I think it's great that my children can check out my collection if they ever get curious. It's like I wished my parents had bought at least a few 'Stones or Beatles gems that I could dust off every now and again. My son appreciates my love for the band and I try to ensure that he knows what the high value items are..so he doesn't off load them at a carboot when I've gone to the great collectors fair in heaven!! I think I've proved I really am a duran addict...not that I was trying to. Trust me, it was a massive step for me to click on 'Buy'.. Sorry but the book has been on presale for months now, there have been exhibitions in central London and there has been a fair amount of press for the book, not to mention numerous tweets and FB mentions by the band, O'Regan and fans. So everyone even remotely following DD will by now know about the book. And like I said, I really don't think non-fans will have any interest in the book. 132 copies sold so far which is 6,7% of all copies available. And people are really starting to complain about when the books will finally ship.

Needing a "more intense marketing plan" is admitting that sales are way beneath expectations I do want to make clear that I'm not judging anyone who buys a copy of the book, if it's worth the price for you then you should definately buy one. We all will have bought records or other DD stuff for high prices just because we really wanted to own it. I just have a big problem with the arrogance with which the band and O'Regan seem to think that GBP 250 is a normal price for a book about a tour that happened 30 years ago.

Well here we are and it's 17th October and still no book. I wonder if they are being distributed from the UK or from Italy where they are being printed. I think everyone who bought the book should get a golden ticket. That would make me happy. Or something else a little extra for placing an order. Who knows? I'm just happy to get a copy as it was the golden age of DD.
