Really, who cares!!! U2 are the most OVERATED band in the world. All their music after the Joshua Tree is NOT very good. Duran is a BETTER band. Go ahead & criticize me, do NOT care I won't criticize you...I agree completely. Bono is not my cup of tea and is way overrated as well. And Simon is SO much better looking and easier on the eyes than Bono! lol I'd try to talk to my U2 loving friend about the similarities and differences but there is none to her. In her world, U2 is the greatest band ever to exist, no one comes close to them, and Bono is god.

Landed U2 100 million dollars....sure, Apple is quick to say that it will "give tens of millions" to aids research but please stop claiming than that U2 gave their album away for free. They made 25 million each overnight.
But critisizing U2 and Apple is not done, fans of both are non-critical and will always defend every move the band or brand makes. So predictable...

So predictable... it goes both ways...the anti U2 group are just as quick to jump on anything they do. I am a U2 fan and by no means do I defend everything they do- either musically or anything else. From my perspective I got an album for free the other day The numbers are very big but I guarantee that if Duran Duran had launched AYNIN like this (or the next album) the reaction would be different- and no-one tell they wouldn't do the same given the opportunity... actually I'm sure Duran got paid by Apple to do the giveway of AYNIN back in 2010

Today Apple released instructions on how to delete the album off your iPhone/Cloud, and an apology for what a lot of iPhone owners are calling an invasion of privacy. Not good publicity for your album when people are clamoring for instructions on how to get it OFF their iPhones. And of course people have commented on how U2 has sold out. Overall I'd say this hasn't been positive press for U2.

Overall I'd say this hasn't been positive press for U2. Thank you for that. I didn't know there was a way to get rid of it! Though technically it was on "the cloud" and not really taking up space on my phone, I still didn't want the songs showing up on shuffle or something.

No problem. The main issue people have with this whole U2 album download thing is, they didn't ask for it and Apple didn't announce they were doing it. It just showed up everyone's phone. Even if you don't mind U2, the idea that Apple can just download anything onto your iPhone whenever they want is more than a little unnerving. Plus, I'm sure it gave the hackers some ideas. They're probably now all racing to see who can be the first to use the iCloud to download malware apps onto the iPhone. If Apple can do it, they can figure out a way to do it. As for me, the iCloud feature on my phone is permanently off!

LOL I had a hard time actually downloading the album! I also don't have the iCloud feature on on my phone or computer.
I think U2 has lost some of their luster. They're still well respected, but I don't think they are considered the greatest band of the world like they used to be. I like U2 just fine. I prefer their War/Unforgettable Fire/Joshua Tree phase, but it doesn't bother me that they have been successful. I think it's well earned. It's funny because they also took a hard left turn to their sound with Achtung Baby and haven't looked back since (as far as I know, since I haven't listened to anything of theirs since All That You Can't Leave Behind which I thought was meh).
Sure, I wish it was Duran that was in their position, but I can't cast stones at U2 because that would make me as bad as everyone out there who has ever unfairly put down Duran for no other reason than them having a little airplay and success.

And this is the mentality of diehard U2 fans. Left off the names. This is childish...and one of them was a friend of mine. Simon Le Bon simonjclebon 11h Well my favourite track on @u2's Songs of Innocence is "Song For Someone". It's the kind of thing I wish DD'd written. He may not say in so many words, be he knows who's the biggest and best band in the world!!! This is the most line he has ever written!! He knows who the biggest and the best!! Well. Someone FINALLY grew some balls and faced the facts!!

I think Volcano is more suited for Duran. Perhaps on their next covers album :-)

I was reading about the new album on another forum and wow, has U2's stock fallen! I was under the impression that yeah, maybe they weren't as all powerful as they used to be. But now a lot of people out there downright hate them!
Funny, a lot out there like their Achtung Baby/Zooropa period and wish they would go back to that. While the rest like just the first 3 or 4 albums. There seems to be a lot out there who find them insufferable since the Joshua Tree and hated the fake live personas they took on during their Zoo Station tour which made them seem self-absorbed. And apparently the Rattle and Hum album is despised!
But generally people seem indifferent about the new album. Not particularly good but not particularly bad either.
