Just putting this out there but do you think the reason DD have dragged their feet a bit with the album (after an initial possible 2014 release/media campaign) may have something to do with Spandau Ballet doing the media rounds at the moment to promote their film and greatest hits + new songs album? They do seem to keep close contact and probably got their heads together and thought having a few 80's icons doing the rounds all around the same time might no be beneficial to each other. Also there's Culture Club touring the end of this year with a new album planned and the big Apple launch with U2 involved. What you guys think?

Doubt it. I think more likely the creative process of making the album took longer than they were anticipating. Seems like they were not sure where the new material was headed until Nile Rogers signed on.
Of course this is all speculation. I don't claim to know a friend of a friend who was Mark Ronson's former roommate who overheard a conversation about it.

I think that they are just very slow workers, always have been. I really don't think that they are scared of a Spandau Ballet release, this could even bring them some publicity too as in "2 80's icons release albums". And the biggest market for DD is the US where Spandau Ballet never were big.
As for U2...weren't Astronaut and U2's Atomic Bomb released around the same time? So that's also not something they take into consideration.

Speaking of 80's icons, Simple Minds are releasing their next album Big Music next month. Their last album Graffiti Soul from 2009 charted at no. 10 in the UK, making them bigger contenders than Spandau Ballet or Culture Club. U2 on the other hand are in a league of their own (let the backlash begin.)

There are many 80s groups putting out new music right now. It's just Durantime at work.

Agree, Durantime as always. Will not be out before next Summer, believe me.
Spandau were one hit wonders in the USA, even Simple Minds were never as huge as DD across the Atlantic.

Except the press will always resurrect it. There's already been a comment that Spandau were "first out of the gate" for a new release.
PUH-LEEZ. Call me when Spandau starts work on their 14th studio album.

On top of everything, Duran Duran has never disbanded/broken up. They've been consistent (as consistent you can get with DuranTime) with their music. Spandau can't take claim to either of those.

New single is good though, like 1985 never happened.

Let’s review the difference.
Spandau is releasing their umpteenth compilation with only three new songs and a biopic entitled “Soulboys Of The Western World” (yeah sure.)
DD is about to release their fourteenth album of new material and had a concert film collaboration with a world renowned director play in theaters.
Who’s looking back and who’s looking forward?
