Thnx a lot for sharing this one. Amazing that after all these years this version surfaces. I dont think its the best 12"mix of DD I ever heard but it has its moments...I like the bit from the 6th minute and on... the best part of this mix

THANKS! I thought I might not like it for the first 2 mins or so but after that it was great, and gets better and better as it goes on, and as you say, they remember to include a few bars of John Barrys orchestral backing at the end, and the song finally comes together. I like some of what they did, and the breakdowns are always fun, although I noticed an odd rattle in the background which went through the track. If this was a modern remix from multi-tracks I'd say it is very good, but as a remix from 1985 I'd say its better than very good. I'll have to give it a few more listens before I can fully appreciate it.

hmmm it is good but I am not 100% convinced this is from 85 I have listened carefully to this. The give away to its authenticity is at 2.22 where there appears a riff I have only ever heard live and not on the record. Secondly there are bits of this mix which involve the kind of isolation that must have come from the original multi track recording. I think therefore that it is a genuine remix. Someone is therefore going to be in trouble as this will irritate the band big time. It is not a particularly good remix either, although that doesn't mean that someone didn't have a good stab at it!! ShutterHaze

Definitely genuine. At 1.35 and 1.41 you can hear Nicks string pad voiced in E flat instead of E flat minor. This is the infamous argument (which Nick won) over the one note (G instead of F#) Nick had with John Barry.

This is the infamous argument (which Nick won) over one note (G instead of F#) he had with John Barry. I had *exactly* that thought too when I listened to it again this morning. Well spotted! Next question though: where are the brass / orch hit samples from ( on both this and the original), the film soundtrack itself (this theme song being one of the last things to be written for it), orch5 / orch2 on the Fairlight CMI ( plus blending with other samples) or something more obscure? I have asked Katy, and the answer was: NOT BAND APPROVED AT ALL.
So something has been approved, but not to be pressed on vinyl or anything after nearly 30 years.
