True... EMI Germany actually did release a 12" pressing with only the single version. You already could've known as it was mentioned on one of the Collector's Corners of a few months back (may??).
Only 12"s exist from France (promo release), USA (promo release) and Germany (low quantity commercial release).
As for Discogs there are numerous releases which are actually doubles.

So glad to come here after a way-too-long layoff and see a thread with the sensible deduction that this mix HAS to have come from the original masters since the only other way to get such perfect instrumental sections & isolated bits would be if the song had been featured in Guitar Hero (which it of course wasn't). I've been verbally sparring with a goofball on fb who claims that because the drums & synths sound "different" than the single mix, they can't possibly be Roger & Nick, and that you can isolate instruments that well with "a few" software programs out there, so the mix is fanmade. I told him he might want to learn what a "remix" actually is, the breadth of what can be done with master tapes, and what EQ knobs are capable of! I wish I could just direct him to the wisdom of some of the great posts in this thread instead!
In the end, all I know is that, warts and all, my almost 30 year ache for a true extended remix of AVTAK is now cured! Finding out I don't have to settle for a youtube rip but can get it in great quality on DD Unleashed is just the icing on the cake!

Isn't it the same idiot who makes fanmade stems of DD songs on YouTube? Some fans actually trust him that they are a real deal..... + he posted the fake Seven and the Ragged Tiger demos and argued with me that they're real.

I do remember the one you're referring to, but I doubt this is the same guy. The one you're talking about was an utter jackass. In trying to pass of clearly faked recordings as real he was either completely delusional or just liked trolling. This guy seems to have the opposite problem, thinking that real things are fake, revealing a weak ear and lack of even rudimentary knowledge of how a master tape remix is made.

Hi Steve Thompson here. The mystery solved. I did this mix with Mike Barbiero and The band was there except John. We did that mix in a studio in Paris. I could never understand why the mix didn’t come out. And yes i brought it to WLIR because we were all friends of the station and i would always give them exclusives. Would love to find out how this got out and would hope it finally gets released. I love the comment that the snare is all wrong.
If it is him, then that closes that off. DD time to eat humble pie?

Yep, Steve also confirmed by answering my facebook query: Steve Thompson Productions facebook page AVTAK 12" Q & AFrom this pic it looks like it's just Nick, Simon, & Roger there with him in Paris: DD with Steve Thompson, AVTAK Remix ParisNo wonder JT doesn't remember it...it looks like neither he or Andy were there for the remix, although it's funny how much Steve Thompson looks like JT in the pic, and Simon IS holding a bottle of Beck's beer after all, so I guess Andy was there, at least in spirit(s). No AT & JT makes complete sense actually, since they were off making the Power Station album in NY, while the others were in Paris for that "other little project" that yielded the sublime So Red the Rose!

Well, this has proven to be one ofe the most interesting threads here since a long time. With input from the main participators. Now Nick Simon and Roger need to shime in.

For me, this also just emphasizes the point that there needs to be a better balance between ALL instruments in their mixes. Roger's strong drumming and JT's fantastic bass feel ALIVE. It's an element that's been too dominated by Nick's wizardry in so many subsequent albums.

Can somebody PM me a link to this? I was out of town for much of November and missed this! All the links seem to have been taken down.
Thanks! -Elliott
