I am sorry..Smiths to be on the ballot for next month's Rock'n Roll Hall of fame for 2015 is INJUSTICE TO DURAN DURAN..No offense I like Smith's and Morrissey but they had no impact whatsoever here in the States..Duran had 2 number one hits were one of the biggest bands in the 80's.sold millions of albums.had a comeback album in the 90's and probably one of the fewest 80's bands STILL MAKING NEW MUSIC and they are more relevant than Smith's will ever be! This is injustice--the Hall of Fame is a joke and Duran has to be at least nominated soon!! Sting I have no problem and Chic as well as Kraftwerk as all have inspired other artists but I do with the Smiths and Green Day and Nine Inch Nails!!! rockhall.com/voting/2015-rock-hall-nominees-fan-vote/

Calm down. It's not bullcrap. Smiths had a big impact on loads of other (mainly indie) bands, and DD (unlike Smiths) have always been completely mainstream.
And for that, I love DD.
Injustice my ass. And I don't even like the Smiths, but I can appreciate that there are those who do, and why they do!

I'd like for Duran to get the recognition, but the R&RHOF is not any real barometer of talent or greatness. Bunch of aging hippies who vote to decide who will join their elitist club.

I would love to see the boys inducted. They deserve the recognition. But let's face it, if ABBA made it in before them there's really not much in the way of discretion in their decision making.

ShutterHaze Well...DD have influenced lots of bands/artists and gets namechecked all the time by younger bands as being an inspiration (No Doubt, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Garbage, Justin Timberlake, Smashing Pumpkins, Live, Deftones to name but a few) so I don't agree with you there. And let's not forget they almost singlehandly kickstarted the whole video era and that they are always in touch with the latest technology when touring. So yes, I do think they deserve their place in the Hall of Fame. That being said...I really don't see the Hall of Fame as relevant so why bother to get even in there? Music shouldn't be contained in a museum which labels it as "being important". The whole idea is rather stupid to me.

I had the distinct honor of interviewing Lori Majewski, one of the authors of "Mad World" for my radio show on my college station called "All 80s Rewind." It is still up on the site if anyone is interested but the reason I'm posting this is because we did talk a bit about The Smiths, Duran Duran and the RRHOF. After talking with her, I understand why The Smiths got a nomination. I am still very anti-RRHOF for many reasons but Lori did put it an a good way. If you want to hear the bit, follow the link below to the station's SoundCloud, specifically my interview with Lori, and it starts at about 15:12. soundcloud.com/the-galaxy-radio/aprils-interview

Duran deserve to be in the RRHOF. I have a real problem with ABBA, Kiss and Hall & Oates. Come on Duran influenced many current bands, they had #1 songs, won a Grammy and are still making music.
Memo to the RRHOF committee-- WAKE UP & PUT DURAN DURAN in the HALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
