Rivals ? I don't think they play in the same category !!!! Same here! Although, I still like some of their early stuff from their first 2 albums. And I still love their song 'I've Been Losing You'. But I think a-ha is in no competition with Duran.

Hurray! Well, assuming it's a decent album naturally - but i obviously hope the same for DD14.
& along with the first 3 albums, esp Minor Earth Major Sky ranks up there imho.
Okay, globally then they've clearly not had the same success as Duran, but i'm sure you'll find as many people being able to sing along with the hey day hits & remember the videos & whatnot in quite a few countries - & obviously a reasonable %age of Duran's audience only turn up to hear the hits...
Well it's the same 'wallpaper to/fabric of people's lives' premise that Simon used about Duran going back.
Separately, whilst there was some cross over, they were most successful at a time in the 80s when the interest in Duran was waning/had waned - so, much as Duran have commented on changes in the music scene being *a* factor in the lack of mid-late 80s success, it 'could' be argued that it was the same thing that limited a-ha from being as successful commercially.

What i have read from the press release is that a-ha is doing quite a tour in Germany/Austria/Switzerland. It has been a long time since DD played that many dates over there... I am happy with a new record from them as i have always like them.

I thought a-ha retired only a few years back.... So they decided to reunite again.
But agree, not the same league. In the US a-ha is a one-hit wonder.

A-ha were not "New Romantics" but they were definitely in the same category as Duran, music-wise. Unfortunately, we only got to enjoy 1 huge hit in America and 2 minor hits. I hate that America didn't (and still don't) embrace foreign acts.
However, I will openly admit that the "Take On Me" video was awesome, and in my opinion, was just as good and creative as any DD video. It is a stand-out video of the 80s!

You are all being mean! Fine band, all their recent LPs have been great (Foot of the Mountain is classic), Europe love them to the US loss frankly - and theyre doing Rock in Rio in front of 200000 fans. Bet Duran wish they could do that again

ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!! Weak compared to AVTAK....movie was better but not the song....
Best opening sequence IMO--HOT!!!
