It is known that John left the band because of Warren. But I'm not clear why. Warren was still simple rock-oriented musician and John too. John had the impression that Warren wants to take over the musical direction of the group? Or he was not satisfied with Warren playing the guitar? I personally think that it arrived after failure of album Thank You, what was Warren's initiative.

I think it had to do with musical directions, and control over the band sound, but the differences in personalities probably played a role as well. I can image that Warren the health freak did not match well with John the coke addict and boozer.
I don't think JT had much musical input in any of the DD albums during WC's tenure; he admitted that his heart was not in Liberty, he did not even contribute to or play on the best song on TWA (Come Undone), despite sharing song writing credits, and Medazzaland was made largely without him. I believe WC filled this vacuum, which may have resulted in further estrangement.
But really JT is the only one who kows the ins and outs.

Maybe John suffered from penis envy. Warren has an amazing C**k!

First of all, Skin Twinkie, I want you. Secondly, rather than Warren's impressive member, I think it was Warren's relationship with Nick and his influence in the band that John was starting to be jealous and resentful of. Remember he and Nick had been childhood friends and started the band together in the first place. The more prominent a role that Warren took, and with he and Nick also writing exclusively together for TV Mania outside of Duran Duran, the more insecure John seemed to become. It wasn't all hateful, and time heals all wounds. At www.popmatters.com/feature/duran-duran-050325/ the following interview taking place after Astronaut was released, asks: PM: Does anyone in the band still keep in touch with Warren [Cuccurullo, former Missing Persons guitarist who joined the band in 1990. He left after 2000’s Pop Trash]?
JT: Nick [Rhodes, keyboardist] does. I don’t want to say much about that, because it was [after I left the band], but really, he carried the band for a while. Without Warren at that time, we probably would have just broken up.So John had a chance to lay the boot in, or say something negative, but he was man enough to give Warren a rap. So I wouldn't say John couldn't stand the site of Warren; maybe he just wasn't as content in Duran Duran when it seemed to be Nick and Warren's baby more so than everybody's group.

i think its funny how everyone just KNOWS why John left and all that jazz. You think what you get from the media and even DD interviews is truth?

Skin Twinkie, I want you. .Coolbarn, you're like a dog after a bone!!! You crac me up mate!! He cracks me up too it's all good fun. I always love reading Coolbarn's posts as well, the man would make an incredible writer. I think it is undeniable that John felt distanced form his childhood friend not only creatively, but he was living in LA for some few years and commuting to the UK to work on "Duran-time" must have burned him out. Dom has been wonderful and I hope the new album is great, I would love for Warren to get back with them though...why not?

I also tend to believe that its role was played by personality differences. John's attitude towards the group at that time was also more or less aloof. Somewhere I read as John saying that if the OW not so successful that the group would have long ago abandoned.

Coolbarn, you're like a dog after a bone!!! Yeah true; I'd just prefer it that Skin Twinkie was after my bone to be honest.
