Alan Light: The biggest surprise in the book for me was how much music you said you liked — Todd Rundgren, Duran Duran, the Bee Gees.
John Lydon: Everything! Those are just names that pop up off the top of my head, but basically, I like everything. Very broad, expansive taste. Good lyric writing is what will draw me in the most, because I love books as well.

On another note, I'm looking forward to reading this.

Here's another article which includes a different take on the same thing: "The tone changes when he writes tenderly, and uxoriously, of his wife, Nora, and extended family. Libraries have been another kind of saviour and there are paeans to Richardens, Wilde, Ted Hughes, Muriel Spark and John Keats. Punk did not brush away the musical past as its publicists have claimed, and Lydon emphasizes the musical continuum, praising influential musical acts from Can and Hawkwind, through Kool & the Gang, to Duran Duran and Depeche Mode. Of the Edgar Broughton Band, he wisely notes: “I don’t expect the music would bear up too much today, but that isn’t the be-all-and-end-all”. " www.the-tls.co.uk/tls/public/article1506644.ece

No wonder he likes Duran, they always mention they wanted to be a cross between The Sex Pistols and Chic, must be flattering even if Johnny hates being known more as the Sex Pistols man than the Public Image Ltd man. They are all friends anyway. John Taylor worked with Steve Jones of the Pistols in the Neurotic Outsiders. Simon has appeared on Steve's radio show and Steve is playing guitar on #14. Johnny and Steve have always been mates, they claim all the post-pistols feuding was just to make themselves laugh, because they can't believe so many people took the Sex Pistols seriously. It's all part of their Great Rock And Roll Swindle. Maybe John Lydon hates Duran, it wouldn't matter. I have read both of his books and they are a scream, I love his interviews too. I prefer the first couple PIL albums over Nevermind The Bollocks. I have heard that album to death, it's amazing fun, but PIL is much more interesting! On another note, weren't the Neurotic Ousiders awful?

On another note, weren't the Neurotic Ousiders awful? Hello Miss Hotness Sweetness, Half of them were. Let me rephrase that - half of the album was pretty average; the other half of the album was pretty good. There were a few really good quicker songs - Nasty Ho, Jerk, and Angelina were all really catchy and cool. However songs like Good News, Revolution, Janie Jones, and Six Feet Under were all pretty tuneless and just seemed like vehicles to get your head banging. Now there's nothing wrong with a good head bang. In fact it's been a while since I've had one. But I want my melon to nod along like a Bobblehead on the dashboard of a square-wheeled car because the music is great, not because it's playing at 80,000 beats per minute. Then you had the mid-high/mid tempo songs like Feelings Are Good and Always Wrong. We know John Taylor wrote those because they also ended up on Feelings Are Good And Other Lies. But they were only quite average and nowhere near as good as other songs on JT's album like Everyone Is Getting It But Me, See You Again (I Don't Ever Want To), Down Again, and Girl Raw. It surprises me to say this but much of the slower music on Neurotic Outsiders was really quite classy. Often slower-tempo tracks can bore me, as they don't always have the hook necessary to keep me entwined in the music. But songs like Better Way and Union in particular, and even Story Of My Life were actually pretty good. It just goes to show the band's strengths. When they played melodic music like that found on a Duran Duran record, or even much of Guns 'N Roses, then they rocked. However when they played some bad Sex Pistols or bad GNR then they were nowhere near as impressive.

I'll give it another shot, I only ever played it twice and barely got through the second spin. I think my expectations were to high. I'll have to try it again with a what the hell attitude or after a few vodka tonics, from what i remember it was heavy with some cringe-worthy lyrics, should be great for a hangover! I always love reading your posts Coolbarn XOXO-XXX

I read John Lydon's book, and I recommend it. Great read!
He mentiones at least 2-3 times that he likes Duran Duran, even mentions he likes "Hungry Like The Wolf". Also, there is a passage in the book where he describes how Simon Le Bon helped him get into a VIP event in the early 90s. Apparently, Lydon was having trouble with the bouncers, but SLB spotted him, approached the bouncers and said "Don't you know who this is?!", after which Simon brought him in.
Definitely huge mutual respect between Lydon and Duran.

I'll give it another shot, I only ever played it twice and barely got through the second spin. I think my expectations were to high. Never set your expectations high for ANYTHING and you will never be disappointed. That's why I was surprised with that poll from last month asking what you expect from DD14 ( duranduranboard.proboards.com/thread/33457/expect-new-album-duran-14 ), and reading the second most common response was "It will surely rank in the top 4 Duran Duran albums". I mean come on guys, you start expecting that and you could end up very disappointed. Why not go for something like "I hope it's better than Liberty or Red Carpet Massacre", or maybe even "I hope it's better than getting 1000 amp electrodes placed on my testicles which activate every time I see a song on the charts that features the word 'featuring'". I even like the sheer simplicity of something as simple as "I hope it's better than Dysentery". Remember if you expect the best, you can only be disappointed. If you expect the worst, then you're probably going to be pleasantly surprised. I'll have to try it again with a what the hell attitude or after a few vodka tonics Ideally do it with both. Vodka and 'what the hell' go together like fish and chips, cheese and crackers, a fat kid and cake, and Milli and Vanilli (girl, you know it's true). from what i remember it was heavy with some cringe-worthy lyrics, should be great for a hangover! It certainly is a "Boy's Album", that's for sure. Heavy guitars, blowjobs, C-Bombs; it's worse than dinner time in the Osbourne household. I always love reading your posts Coolbarn XOXO-XXX Ah shucks, much appreciated. (Do you want me to deposit the $50 into the usual account for saying that?)

I know one of the fans on the LK forum said they had talked to Rotten/Lydon before and was told by him that he had a respect for DD, so hearing this doesn't surprise me.

It's finger suckin' good Coolbarn!! Hell..you even got a couple of kisses!! Lol I'm not one to kiss and tell Skinburn, so please just keep this to yourself and tell NOBODY else. But it wasn't just a couple of kisses. I won't go into the details which were breathtaking, intense, and climactic, but let's just say the triple-X at the end of Skin Twinkie's sign-off to me was very apt. And perhaps even an X or two short! The moral of the story kids - always write well. Sorry have to go Skinburn, my wife is now waking me up telling me to wipe the drool off my computer desk.
