Do you actually read and take into consideration what others are saying, or do you just pick out the moments they lost their cool and use it to dismiss or discredit them? This is a form of manipulation. I think diatribein made some incredibly valid points. Why don't you address some of the open and honest remarks he made about the album and his feelings on it? Plus, he was not telling people off for having a different opinion on the album. He was addressing the accusations being made about board members having closed mindedness and being "old farts" for not liking this record. Where do you begin to address a close minded individual who doesn't like anything about the new album? There's nothing at all positive in his comments. Why is he even here? You have no idea about me or my personality so don't judge me on a few posts. I've been here a while now and I am one of the first to put my hand up and put points for and against Duran material. Don't be ignorant, read my historic posts as they are there for all to read. The only time I get my back up is when peeps come on here, including you, who have nothing positive to say about the new album and stir up 'crap'. So I'm addressing you all back..don't tell people to f___ off because it ain't polite! Take your hatred and angst elsewhere. Again, you refuse to respond constructively about his issues with the album and instead write a paragraph about how great you are. The only one I see full of hatred and angst is you right now and it's over the fact that not everyone sees things YOUR way. Every board member who has bad things to say about the album typically is coming from a place of true honest disappointment over a band they expect more from and thats just fine. Thats realistic! It may not make sense to you but it's a fact... Paper Gods is not loved by all. And just because the negative Vibes don't fit into your perfect Duran Duran world gives you no right to name call and spew hate at the fans themselves. Calling your posts historic as if you're apart of some Duran Duran elite won't win you any points. Get over yourself.

How to sum it all up quickly? This is *not* the album I'd wanna be dancing to when the bomb drops. Come on, we're not in 1984 now. Music to dance to when IS invades Europe...

Its a good album but feels very patchy, like they tried to take the best songs from three demo albums and tried to build up the strong or catchy ones. AYNIN feely very organic, and all of the songs on the main album (not Networker etc) all have a feel good summer feel and a very relaxed and yet angular feel; which took some getting used to but wasnt so bad now looking back.
Looking back, since TWA we've had Thank You, Medz, PT, RCM, AYNIN and PG. I'd say this album is the second best out of all of these - so two good albums in 20 years. Thanks Duran Duran for keeping on trying, and making something not half bad in this day and age, with young hooligans trading album sales for headlines, I think they have done very well. Certainly I cant name another group in their mature years who can pull out a few semi-hits like Chances and YKMWS. I think I'm just grateful they are still doing this for us.

So here's a few observations I've made about those who Absolutely Loath this Album and really weren't All To Fond of AYNIN or RCM.
First it seems that one of the biggest Misconceptions is, that Duran Duran were Forced to work with Outside Producers like Timbaland, Mark Ronson, Mr Hudson, and to some extent Nile Rogers.
Secondly, they seem to think the Guys were forced by their labels to bring in Other/Younger Artists in an Attempt to gain Popularity and "Chase the Top 40"
It seems they're also under the impression that The Band had No Say or Choice about what Instruments were Used or Played, or where Their Place belonged in the final Mix.
Lastly, I'm gonna go ahead and say it, it seems that a lot are hung up on the fact that Andy and or Warren aren't still with the band, and somehow believe that, again, The Band had No Choice about the amount of Guitar work on this Album.
My thoughts about all of this are a bit different. Maybe this is also why I've also enjoyed the last three Albums, RCM, AYNIN, and Paper Gods more than some, is Firstly, I view anything The Band has done as Their Choice, and Their Choice Alone.
I believe, that because they are open to Evolving and Trying New and Different Sounds, and Styles, that it only makes sense for them to Bring In Whoever They Deem to Produce or Appear on Their Album, because, Label or Not, it is THEIR NAMES on THEIR WORK. Period!
As far as bringing in other Artists to Collaborate with, that's Also Their Choice, whether They were Aproached by the Artist or Producer, in the case of Mark Ronson, because they were inspired by Duran Duran or just Fans, or if The Band Aproached them because they heard something that They could bring something to Their Work.
When it comes to Instruments, again, This Is THEIR CHOICE. Obviously they don't have a Guitar Player, which I believe is a Conscious Decision, after everything they've gone through with Andy and Warren. I don't blame them. Who Wants Drama? So for PG it was a No Brainer to bring in John Frusciante to provide Guitar on the Songs They Wanted to Feature that sound.
In the end, basically This, like Every Other Album that Duran Duran have done is THEIRS! Nobody Elses. They Were Happy with what They Produced, and Proud of it enough to Put Their Name On It. I admit I'm a Duranie, they've Never Disappointed Me. Were there Highs and Lows? Of course, for both Myself and the Band. For me, Pop trash was their Lowest.
I know They NOW look back at Liberty, and RCM as Albums they aren't as proud of in hindsight. But at the time they were Happy with Their Work. Every Artist goes through this. In the end, while I do believe the Guys Genuinely Like Their Fans, It's Not US They have to PLEASE, it's Themselves.

I'm not sure how you could place it behind very many albums. The songs as a group are very good, the production is better than on many past albums and the band seems pretty relaxed with it. After taking some time with it, I love most of the songs and the one song I am supposed to hate-doesn't bother me at all. I admit I am all over the place with a song or two, unlike AYNIN, where I instantly attached to every song...but PG is a fascinating album. No let down at all.

'Historic posts'...meaning posts I've written in the past, bygone days, weeks ago, months ago...history..historic. Thats almost funny..now I understand what the problem is. Are..you...listening?? I don't want people to exactly like what I like! I don't give a shit if people are complaining about certain elements of the album I don't care about comparisons. Do you think I like the whole of PG?? Wrong! I don't like dancephobia...but it's fun! I just object to 3 years of work described as 'crap'. Name call? Who's name calling?...in fact do you know what? I'm done with you. You've obviously not read my 'historic' (lol) posts so you're not worth another thought.. You're taking this a bit personally don't you think? The three years of hard work by the band... you defend it like it's your own. Anyways we're all kind of beating a dead horse at this point. I have no ill feelings. You might be "done with me" but I thought we were just having a good old fashioned debate! ;-)

Why try to make it look like there is a "negative vibe" around Paper Gods? I see far more positive views than negative. But as usual the negatives are much louder than the positives.

First off let me be clear that I have only heard the 5 released tracks so far. And in my opinion they are all good, in there own way.
Music is all about making some kind of connection. The reason why Duran Duran is my favorite band is because they make that connection more often than anyone else. Those connections can change over the years. Some songs have deep meaning (Ordinary World), some have no meaning at all (The Reflex). But they both can make some connection to the listener.
The first 5 songs so far have some meaning (What are the chances) and some lack it (Last Night In The City). I, for one, can't wait to hear how the rest will connect with me. That's personal for me. You all might not make the same connections at all. That's OK. If this album doesn't connect with you, go find something that does, but don't bash it.
I have been a fan since 1982 and I have always been excited for new songs or albums. They don't always meet expectations, but some have always connected for me. It's always about how the songs make you feel. Some make you smile, some make you cry, some even make you laugh. Let the music move you.
