While most of its onetime ’80s British pop contemporaries have comfortably settled into a life of nostalgia package tours, Duran Duran continues to seek relevance some 35 years into its seesaw career. On its 14th studio album, “Paper Gods,” the group — still made up of singer Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor — re-enlists Mark Ronson, the “Uptown Funk” mastermind who produced its last full-length, 2010’s “All You Need Is Now.” While still working within the electro-pop realm on “Paper Gods,” Duran Duran’s sound grows more assured, if also slightly more delirious. On the title track, a collaboration with Jay Z/Kanye producer Mr. Hudson, and the single “Pressure Off,” which features R&B singer Janelle Monae and Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers, the band dresses up its sterling melodies with sleek modern accessories; while “The Universe Alone” shows it retains its knack for turning out a decent power ballad.
