I also struggled with this album from the start as I'm not a huge fan of Pressure Off and I really haven't connected with the rest of the album. I still really love Northern Lights and Universe Alone. But, when it comes to what Duran I've listened to since I last posted in this thread (did I post in this thread or did I imagine that *runs to check*), I've listened to pretty much every Duran album except PG (getting reacquainted with some neglected albums). So it hasn't been a total loss for me since I haven't heard some of their albums in years and it's been fun rediscovering them.

I struggled with Paper Gods from the start- Pressure Off made no impression at all when it came out and the album just after the A- ha album ( which i really like) and as I started my trips around Europe following the U2 tour, so wasn't in a Duran space That said I have given it a go and Face for today, What are the chances and especially The Universe Alone stand out for me, with Paper Gods, Last Night, Northern Lights and Silence all in the OK column that I'll listen to The other half of the album just doesn't connect with me, I haven't played any of it for quite a while I've been so disconnected from this era that I almost skipped the UK tour, as it was the show had the same affect as the album- ie just didn't connect with me- but again part of that was timing with the U2 tour so again I was not really in a Duran space U2's last album all sounds the same...Love Paper gods--great album still going strong after 4 months in my car...Duran Duran forever! With or without Andy...

I love several songs on PG (PG, FFT, NL, OID, TUA) but didn't much care for the rest. Recently I revisited PG...listened to it as a follow-up-in-spirit to TWA...enjoying it a bit more. LNITC, YKMWS, PO, WATC, SG, CTS, and BG all decent. In fact, only Danceophobia is the one I still have a hard time with. All that said, I'll still take All You Need Is Now over PG seven days of the week and twice on Sunday and hope DD15 will bring back the guitar/bass/drum/keyboard combo that makes Duran Duran who they are...

You know it's a quiet week when the old threads are being resurrected. It's all been said in the first nine pages

After reading this thread I decided to listen to Paper Gods again. It's much the same as I remember - half of it is excellent, but the other half is underwhelming. Although I did enjoy Sunset Garage a lot more today than usual.

Ha! Coolbarn's a closet 'Sunset Garage' lover! You coming round to it now mate? Well that was yesterday - it was so long ago and I am always evolving and changing, so I wouldn't go so far as to say I am a closet lover of it yet I just remember thinking it wasn't quite as bland as I remember ...

Must admit, i have not played the later songs on the album much on purpose. I kind of want to let them last and not get familiar with them so I have songs to last the next 3-4 years until new stuff. Like a previous poster said, the solid 5 piece sound is somewhat missed on this effort.

I'd like to take a bit of a sabbatical from it TBH but the two year old refuses to listen to anything else in the car. Paper gods is her favourite followed by ..groan...last night in the city, then WATC, but I had a little giggle to myself the other day when I heard her sing the opening bars of change the skyline.
