I know this is an older thread and I haven't anything earth shattering to contribute but you need to put some time aside sometimes to absorb ATRs posts. My knowledge of chic wouldn't extend much beyond the bigger hits you mentioned but if we are picking just one track... And I can really see where you are going with the others ATR, it's going to be so misled. The drums are very tony Thompson intro to some like it hot. Niles style if clean choppy guitar riffs runs through the track, funk style bass and the backing singers contribution harmonising at end of each line and adding in their doo doo doo doo doo wahs! I can see the chic influence on other tracks but I could actually hear chic writing this track. But I guess I'm thinking that early period of chic as a band and not the Nile Rogers who collaborates with daft punk for example. That disco sound had grown up and Duran and NR have too.

If you listen to "le Freak" (the instrumental part near the end) and then listen to "Drug (It's just a state of mind) (original mix) and its instrumental breakdown near the end, it sounds a lot alike!

Thanks for taking the time to read C. Yeah, I agree, that So Misled has chic all over it. In fact I've often thought that the Notorious album, is the most 'funkiest' white band album ever made. Well actually, considering Nile played a large role, I should clarify, funkiest "core white band" album ever made. Thanks for for your astute description regarding your reasons why, boy when you listen, you do so and carefully at that. How rewarding for you!

I haven't read the whole thread, just the first post and I can fully aknowledge what is stated. I also have been lucky and met Nile in a hotel lobby where we (and a few other people) had a drink together a few hours before Chic would play a concert.
The first thing I said to him was that I was a very big Duran Duran fan (I wanted to come out originally and said that instead of "I'm a big Chic fan"). Many other artists would've reacted with a crushed ego but not Nile. "Me too man", he said which of course is the truth. Mind you, this was in 2006, not exatctly a great time for the relation between Nile and the band because of what had happened during Astronaut.
Nile is a great guy. Not one second I was starstruck because he's so down to earth. I had just finished his biography so we had a lot of things we could talk about and he could notice I was informed.
Definately the nicest encounter I ever had with a celebrity of that grandeur.
I also got to watch the Chic concert from the side of the stage which was a real treat. I'll never forget the whole band gathering just before the concert. They all stood in a circle with their arms around each other and their heads close together. Like they were in some collective meditation for a minute or two.
I guess you could summarize it like this : Chic and Nile's music is what love sounds like. When you hear his/their music it goes directly to the heart and warms it up there. That's why their shows are so great. You can actually see the audience being taken over by a wave of love. I've seen Chic about 4 to 5 times in the last ten years. Highly recommended.
