The backlash for Coldplay was,brutal..they didn't sound good and like I said with Coldplay u can't hear the Frick in guitar..
Duran got bashed in UK when they were announced as representing Olympics..they rocked that show. Sadly coldplay-Beyonce did not. Bruno sort of did..and Lady Gaga..
I do want Duran to play SNL.they are so overdue on that show.

Of course there are always going to be some haters from people who either have no musical talent or whose band play in front of three men and a dog. I'm not a fan of Coldplay but they brought it!! "Cool" music sites across the net like NME are praising their performance and everyone at work, even in NZ, are all suddenly Coldplay fans. I love DD but that was another level, a place DD haven't been at since 1985. How can you compare Coldplay and Beyoncé at the Super Bowl with DD and Janelle Monae on Ellen? Don't get me wrong DD have got the songs for a half time show (HLTW, WB, N ) and they could do a mash up with Nile (We Are Family, Good Times, Le Freak) before wheeling out Daft Punk and Pharrell for Get Lucky, but DD need to sell some serious tickets, play with a lot more energy and have a stage show that's cutting edge before they could even hope in their wildest dreams to get invited to the big league. If the half time show didn't happen in 1985 there's no way it's going to happen now.

Sorry Nileblogers not sure what you read or heard or seen on Sunday but Coldplay's performance was horrid...they suck..duran live a million times better than overhyped coldplay.. Chris Martin is a dork compared to Simon who is much cooler on stage.. What I meant for Duran to ever play Superbowl.. I would do it with an 80's montage and have them on stage with Depeche Mode-cure-culture club etc....Coldplay got upstaged by Bruno mars and Beyonce and that should not happen for your headliner...

I'm not sure boy George has stage presence for super bowl Andre though I love his voice, though I agree with a lot of what you said. I'd also be counting on Duran Duran to do a very funk laden show and Simon has more charisma in his little finger than Chris Martin has in his whole body. Not that I dislike Coldplay but Chris Martin is in the "keep your mouth shut offstage" category for me. DD are totally capable of pulling this off, esp with Ronson and Nile. And I'll keep lady gaga too...musically she's a better match with DD than Beyoncé though I'm sure SLB could handle both!

I hate to say it but DD is considered by the general public as lightweight as Coldplay, if not worse. They would indeed perform a great show, but I don't know if the audience, especially a largely football audience, would take to them.

I'm not sure the football audience thing matters that much - the halftime show transcends just football. Beyonce, Justim Timberlake, Janet Jackson aren't very football either. But you are probably right about how they are perceived.

Coldplay was okay but wish they had stuck to them instead of that skanky anti white/anti cop Beyonce and her tribute to Black Lives Matter (I won't get started on these losers). I am glad Duran Duran didn't play after all of that. I will say that Lady Gaga did a great Star Spangled Banner and wish she had done half time. I wish the halftime would play older acts instead of the talentless trash that seems to be on every year. Then again this is when I do other things because halftime bores me. DD isn't lightweight anymore than any of the others. In fact they are much better than most of the others and doubt they would make a horrible political statement because I don't want to see that.

They need their music in a commercial They have, or do you mean their current music? One of the smartest things U2 did was the iPod commercials. It inspired people to buy the special U2 iPod (I did). They also included a certificate to download the entire collection including unreleased music.
