A bit of spare time waiting for food to finish cooking, so to be a little more thorough then -
Doing a similar comparison in Euros (though including Eurozone inflation), £250 was 281.20 Euros on the same date in 2011 -> ~335 Euros in today's money. £300 today is 349 Euros... ...& so the difference in real terms is under 4.2%.
The only place that i know anyone on here is from where i think it's actually expensive in comparison is Canada where the figures are 327 CAD -> ~377 CAD (adding Canadian inflation)... ...vs 426 CAD... ...so nigh on 13% more expensive in real terms.
Whilst adding inflation to the US dollar sums would make the figures 340 USD -> ~357 USD (adding US inflation)... ...vs 315 USD... ...so ~11.8% cheaper in real terms.
& obviously in pounds then it's ~6.4% more expensive in real terms.
Yeah, so naturally it all depends on where you live as to what kind of *comparative deal* you're getting - but, given that there's a very high likelihood that there will be additional costs d.t. the types of reasons given in the last post, & hence valid reasons why it 'should' have cost more in pounds than simply adding average inflation -
it's almost certainly cheaper than it could have been in both pounds & Euros - ie i would be pretty confident that it's been rounded down to £300, not up, once all of the extra costs have been added (or, in other words, the cut that Duran themselves will get is lower in real terms#)...
...it's expensive in Canadian dollars...
...& it's dirt cheap in US dollars.
[# i've ignored Warner's cut, if they're getting anything; though 'if' Duran had been solely concerned about their personal %age then Warner taking some of it would be another reason why they potentially could have decided to make it far more expensive than it is.]
As before, it's not saying that the same arguments that were used about the price of the previous box sets aren't valid ones - just that 'if' you were happy with the cost of AYNiN then there doesn't appear to be *that* much of a reason to have the world of ire about the price of this... ...unless you're in Canada of course.

I also don't mind that the band releases such a box. I will not buy it, but others will (same for the recent Bowie and Pink Floyd boxes). What annoys me is that this is the ONLY product available since the album's release.

I think the set looks great! But I concur that the price is way too steep for me too. I could maybe justify paying $100-$150 US, but £300 is just way too much, regardless of the limited edition size.
Congrats to those who are going for it!
Looking forward to eventually hearing As Seen From A Distance!

The Super Deluxe Edition website has it up now. The comments on there are in the consensus that it's too expensive as well as not such a great album. Mind you, as I've said before, I'm a sucker for colored vinyl, but the price really needs a rethink (which I somehow doubt will change) before I would consider buying it.

To whom it may consern... The fun part of collecting are gone.... I've always thought it was exciting to look for items I don't have. This is the fun part.... searching for items and buy them if I found the price ok for me. One more item, and one more item I can delete from my want list ....but I guess this is impossible for me with all the new items (actaully new items are ok), but this is about the price.... I am living in Norway (Not a member of EU, and Yes, I know that this isn't a duran duran problem). I guess the price for me ould be about: Box set = £ 250 Post cost = £ 34 Custom fee (into Norway) = £ 20 Norwegian VAT = £ 62 So I guess this will cost me about £ 366 (EURO 477)for the box before I have it at my home. This is more than 1000 Norwegian kroner for each record..... Just crazy prices....

A 12" single for Pressure Off in time (I mean august '15) previous to the release of the album would had been a very effective strategy .. A box set with this, more than a year later ... not the correct decision. About the extra song, purely instrumental, I also have an opinion on this one. If it is the 18th track of the record, maybe is not as good one as the previous 17 ... so ...

This is more than 1000 Norwegian kroner for each record..... Just crazy prices.... Sorry, i hadn't thought about including Norway... Again using mid-rates, for the box itself AYNiN was ~1850 NOK... so ~2200 with inflation... ...whereas this is ~2650 NOK.
So that's roughly a 20% increase - & since i strongly believe that we should reasonably be able to assume that ~6.4% is simply towards the extra costs d.t. the fall in the pound d.t. the stupid Brexit vote, that's ~12.8% that's down to the Krone's fall in value over the last 5 1/2 years.
As said previously, obviously it varies on where you live - but as with talking to Figital in Canada, i can certainly see why it would look comparatively expensive to you... ...though, as with the shipping & customs fee, it's also not D2's fault that the Norwegian Krone has dropped in value so much.
Yeah, i've had a similar issue with buying anything from abroad since the tail end of June - where suddenly everything became stupidly expensive; so i can certainly understand the pain.
* * * * *
As an aside, looking at the standard TV Mania release from 2013 (ie £25 + VAT for 2x12"s & a 7") / & the ADiTM from 2014 (ie £25 + VAT for 2x12"s) - then, whilst we can reasonably assume that the PG box set has a smaller pressing run than either of them...
[no idea for ADiTM, but there were obviously 200 copies of the later Euphoria release that was identical (other than the picture & being signed), as well as 100 of the box set that had 2 of the same pieces of vinyl in, which would strongly suggest that more than 50 of the standard TV Mania release had sold to make it worthwhile doing an extra release - so the run for those 2x12"s is likely to have been at least 1000 vs 350 for PG]
...& so the cost of masters & whatnot has to be shared between a smaller number of total units, it provisionally wouldn't appear that the bulk of the cost is the vinyl itself; but instead it's about the designing & manufacture of the whole package & whatnot, & hence more people needing to get paid.
(i also didn't note that China Chow will have expected to be paid fairly handsomely, as well as Alex israel, though i assume she was paid in pounds)
Yeah, so whilst it's been commented on about the high price per 12", this clearly isn't where the bulk of the money's going for this... ...or went on the AYNiN or TV Mania box sets.

I think I am starting to get old, beacuse now I think about good old days in the 80's In the middle of the 80's we would have seen this as a 12" and the b-side would be "As seen from a Distance"....., and the price would be 4-5 EUROS.....

That's one way to look at it...
Another would be that in the mid-80s the released album would have only had 9 tracks on...
There'd have been 3 singles which 'might' have had 1 extra track on each - though could equally have just had a random live track or alt version of a released song on (like HLTW, Rio, SAP, NMOM, TR, TWB, AVTAK, Notorious, MEP, iDWYL, etc)...
...& so there would have been *at least* 6 tracks that we'd never have heard - or at least not for decades 'if' there had been a deluxe version with them on.
Even shifting to the latter end, say, 88 or 89, at which point the Japanese CD would have had an extra disc with a couple of bonus tracks (which again could have been random live things or remixes instead), we'd still be missing at least 3 or 4 of them (assuming that there was an extra track on each of the singles as well).
Yeah, i certainly agree that it would have been cool if there had been something else released... ...perhaps a Mastermixes style double 12" of the remixes for ~£30(?) - but i *really* don't think we'd have been in a better situation in the 80s.

I have no idea how the 300 euro figure is even arrived at. 100 Euros sure, but 300 is just a money grab
