Separately, along with all of the positive feedback, a quick thanks to Peter for providing some pretty detailed notes & queries - yeah, some stuff has a specific rationale which could only be known by having seen later parts, but he's noticed a handful of other minor things that we'd missed which will really help for the final version.
Yeah, there's a point where it becomes almost impossible to step back from the thing - esp since this first part has been looked at so many times as we've been working through ideas for later parts & altering things - & this was exactly what i'd hoped for when i said that we'd not be offended. [/quote] No problem, it was my pleasure to go over things as i know some things are easily overlooked and also the consistency can be lost if you're working on something for such a long time. I did the same for Derek's LEGACY and it benefits the results. It would be really regrettable if minor things remain unseen until it's released, and in worst case, it cannot be adjusted anymore because THEN the minor things become bigger because you'll always see the, from that point on. Lol. Edit: Sorry, i messed up the quote... i deleted some stuff and obviously a bit too much.

Anyway, it's really pleasing that everyone seems to be liking what we've done thus far - but if at any stage there's anything that's clearly b stupid, or even just looks a bit odd, then i'd much rather someone contacted & raised it with us than not know. So don't be afraid of hurting our delicate sensibilities. Well, since you asked : I noticed a typo in the introduction. 'Their oldest daughter, Heidi, was a few years older THEN me'

Wow wow wow... you know guys I check in every day but because I'm not a collector I forget to check in here. That is truly beautiful. The presentation is so crisp, and the visual index really clever, particularly when one considers the scope and breath of the final book being significantly larger. Like Skinburn I only got into DD in 93, and it's always been a heartache of mine that I didn't get to revel in being a fab back then, when I might have actually had a chance of knowing other fans and yes, wearing Duran on my sleeve rather than quietly on my own.
So basically.... stuff like this is really really important to me. It feels like an insurmountable task to become a collector at this late stage in the day, my family are still young and my budget also limited so I guess my priority is being present physically as a fan in terms of concerts etc. I'm also prob not the best hoarder. But beautifully catalogued documentaries of their history are something attainable for me, and I really appreciate when someone who has their house full of Duran Duran stuff painstakingly collected over the years is willing to selflessly share all that work and save me physical space at home!!! That I get to celebrate a period I didn't live through as a fan but have lived a thousand times over in my head.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me really proud to be a Duran Duran fan, and Pierre and Tim have been so humble about it all... really lads I'm gonna stick a link up on the DD board!! And I will certainly make a book from the finished product when it's done, much as I value the generosity of your intention to offer it for free I simply must have a physical copy!!! I had also hoped duranasty might do something similar, I have asked but he as skillfukly avoided answering LOL! If a few people are interested in a physical product we might put our heads together as to how to make it happen. My faith in DD fans has been a bit shaky of late and lads you've just warmed this fans heart immensely. Thank you

As a really quick note (as it's gone midday my time, & i've still not slept), Pierre & i have had a slight change of mind with regard to providing updates.
Well, largely in respect of the critical (in the positive sense of the word) notes that a few people have given - though also as there's a handful of questions that i have, working through, that someone might be able to answer definitively & a few items that we're missing decent scans of - the new plan is to test how releasing cumulative 'work in progress' pdf versions pans out...
...with each one including in any extra info, additional scans & corrections to the previous parts - though tying it to when a new section is ready to be added so that there's always something extra.
Well, since we both have the ethos of trying ideas out & going with what works best, it would be b foolish for us to wholly ignore the value in what's been added by people on the board this time - & if something goes horribly wrong with it then, as with other thoughts we've had which haven't really haven't worked, we can always hit CTRL+Z, or whatever it is that people press on Macs or whatever, & either go back to the original plan or try something else.
Anyway, hopefully in the next few days there will be a new version available - covering all of the minor formatting & spelling corrections that need making to the last part, along with adding (hopefully) the whole of the next 'fan club year' to it.

Would it make sense to work with version numbering then if you do updates?

My faith in DD fans has been a bit shaky of late and lads you've just warmed this fans heart immensely. Thank you What you have to remember Ruth, is that even the collector with the largest collection in the World can't come close to owning everything that Duran Duran have put out..even Figital, Poptrash or whoever. It's not about the materialistic. It's about the music between us and the kinship. You said it yourself.. it's all to do with pride. You can't just choose to be a fan this late in the day. It takes a rocky road with twists and turns before you find the straight. Like many of you, I've had a lot of bumps on the way here and for me it's a rite of passage. As for yourself, you ain't doing badly keeping the dream alive. You have your despondent moments like all of us and not even Skinburn can be positive all the time! The important factor though is that we are all still here fighting..not each other thankfully Don't you dare lose faith in us. If this is because of my outspoken critique then you have to remember if I don't say anything, it's because I don't care...and DDHQ should understand that, not just with me but with all of us. Our voices and commitment are far more vocal than any record collection so stay involved and keep focussed. If you weren't a pain in the ass there would be no balance. Nah, it's *always* about who's got the biggest.
More sensibly, +1 to most of this - though we wouldn't be Duranies if we didn't indulge in the occasional bout of fisticuffs over something or other; metaphorically of course.
Would it make sense to work with version numbering then if you do updates? The short answer, before finally going to bed, is yes.

Yeah, absolutely, that kinship is important to me and like you say sometimes it's a Rocky road but being an involved fan is very close to my heart. So, though my life is a lot busier these days, DD still have a lot to give me, fret not, no fear of me going anywhere ya got a like skin coz I agree with your overall sentiments... not about me being a pain in the arse bien sûr! I think it's just your inexplicable aversion to cherries!!
