With a small number of exceptions it is truly woeful album...but is it the worst album ever...no it isn't
I'd rank the garbage Madonna has released in the last decade as far worst than Thank You and many others. Q Magazine has never been supportive of DD and Thank You is an easy target to aim at

Hear hear! It was NME first, i still have the issue from 1995 with the headline on the front page. But then Britpop was everything then. Your probably correct, it doesn't surprise me with the NME & It was QMag where in 2004/05/06 DD played over 50 gigs in the UK/Ireland/Europe (including a 5 nights at London's Wembley Arena) and there was not one DD concert review in QMag - like what the F_ _ _ were they reporting on exactly ? umm the not significant bands of the time or significant? interesting hey ! Rolling Stone Mag ain't much better either, aside from the cover which was all those years ago in 84, I can't actually recall a DD review of any gig umm......ever ? especially during and since the reunion which ought to have been a certainty. Umm just wondering, how many gigs have DD played in the USA and surrounding areas? Like seriously, what are these mags reporting on? Not true Aftertherain.. Rob is a huge fan so that helps.... www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/duran-duran-turn-up-the-girl-noise-at-madison-square-garden-46111/

However how much pull does the guy have? I cant remeber a DD gig review or album review for that matter, in the rolling stone mag for like ages. & that's the point I'm trying to make. Thanks for posting the link to the AYNIN MSG review I'd forgotten about that one. I cant see why the Hollywood Bowl gig wasn't reviewed ? Did they review one for PGs tour ?

Of course Thank You is not the worst album ever. It is simply a disappointing album. I think if 911 was not on it, the reactions would have been milder.
It is an album I occasionally listen to, certainly more often than RCM, Medazzaland or Pop Trash. But it does not contain songs I particularly like, maybe only Perfect Day (okay-ish). But obviously not better than Lou Reed's version. The quality of the singing is irrelevant for his version to stand out. The orginal artists are also not really my thing (Elvis Costello, Zep, Dylan etc), apart from Bowie (but Diamond Dogs is among my least favourite Bowie songs and Duran's version does not add anything essential) and Public Enemy (well, what were they thinking...).

But hey they did give them their due 4 yrs ago!!

I like every one of Rob Sheffield’s books. The Bowie one is great, the Beatles one is better, and of course, Talking to Girls about Duran Duran is my favorite.
Rob did a fearure article about the band when PG was released that I believe was in the print magazine in the U.S., and the live review that Andre posted above. Print publications have shrunk in size so a lot of content that’s produced these days goes just online.
As for how much pull he has I believe he’s on the voting committee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I like the production on it, I think it sounds kinda full and meaty, but the song choices leave me cold and it was such a let down after the Wedding Album.

But so much of the critical hatred for that album comes from that fact that they dared to put their own spin on classic rock dinosaurs like Zeppelin, Dylan and Elvis Costello. For a second there, I heard a double-time version of crystal ship in my head, with Andy playing rock guitar to accompany the tune, like jang-jang-jang-jang, to Rogers upbeat backing. Not sure if this interpretation would be better than the album, or more fodder for the magazines. Thank You is not their weakest album, and it was just a record contract filler in between tours, so in that sense it did what it was supposed to do. It didnt destroy the band or their public appeal overnight, and maybe that came over the following years. I quite liked the Come Up And See Me and Fame B-sides, so with the brilliant Ball of Confusion and White Lines and a few others, I thought the album was ok.
