Thanks for sharing this video! VG is a big DM fan as well, and now I have hours of his reviews and analysis to keep me entertained. He is going to continue this series on DD and Nick's contribution in particular so if you have any questions send them in.

Thanks Tin! Even with the odd vocal miss-step and incorrect lyric I really enjoyed the musical aspects of the video, and was hoping for more of that. Vaughn is a passionate Duran Duran fan which is very nice to see. However the video also left me with some questions - if it's stated that Nick Rhodes is an "understated genius" then SHOW ME why he is a genius! For example show me how he is doing things and crafting music that other people cannot. Is it the parts Nick plays? Or just his general songwriting? Is he a genius live or just in the studio? Stripping music down to its basic level is a very good start so that was cool. But how much is due to Nick Rhodes and how much is due to the other writers in Duran Duran? In the intro and later in the video for example Vaughn played the main guitar riff of Planet Earth on the piano as well as the keyboard part - so is Nick the genius there or Andy? Or both? In Come Undone is Nick the genius or Warren? So overall a pretty cool video, although get rid of the cringey "Nick Rhodes as a cat" stuff. He is obviously a big fan of Nick Rhodes and Duran Duran which is cool, but I would be more impressed if he came across as an impartial musician rather than gushing fan. Once you start talking about how good-looking the band is, how pretty the band is, and Nick's dress-sense you start taking the focus off the music (the bane of Duran's credibility since their inception) which doesn't do a music-related video any favours. If I was doing a video about Roger Taylor's drumming - there's no way I'm mentioning his looks, dress-sense, style, or what hypothetical animal he would be. I'm playing different beats and demonstrating how Roger played it, showing how Roger's beat really served the song, and showing clips of how he plays songs live compared to on the album. Basically if I call Roger a drumming genius, I'd have to exemplify why in the video. So thanks for the link Tin, it was good. It's always nice to see videos made by fellow fans. Personally I'm more about the music, but I'm sure there are plenty of Nick fans that will get real enjoyment out of that Thoughts about Nick guys? The general consensus on these forums is that Nick is not a genius on the keyboards themselves, but is a genius songwriter and constructor of Duran Duran songs. A thread about Nick's ability normally raises its head a few times a year or whenever there's nothing in Duran-land to talk about Anybody wish to expand on that musically? Or should I just copy and paste the last thread lol?

I agree the guy could have gotten deeper into a true analysis of Nick's genius. I love hearing real nitty-gritty critiques, even if I might not know all the technical jargon.
I think Nick once complimented Nile about some chord progression for Notorious, saying something like, "going from a g chord to an a--genius!" (I don't know music). I didn't understand it, but I liked that level of talk.

There’s also the story about the making of AVTAK when John Barry asked Nick to play a G-minor chord (or something like that) and Nick did not have a clue how to, leaving Barry flabbergasted...
