Oakey, the best way to describe Dave Mathews is a sort of jam band that had hits in the ‘90s. They’ve since taken up a touring mantle similar to Greatful Dead or Phish.

Checked, but no hits over here (Netherlands). In the UK they had one song in the UK top 40 for 1 week at no 35 in 2001. None of the song titles ring any bells but they are apparently big Stateside?

Dave Matthews Band is apparently a U.S. thing, which makes perfect sense when you have heard their music!

I agree with everyone being inducted except for Biggie & Nine Inch Nails. Someone please explain the appeal of NIN, their influence, legacy, & why they deserve to be in the HOF. I don't get them, the lead singer seems like a jerk.
In lighter news, last Saturday on Fox & Friends (the folks had the tv on, I don't watch that crap), as they were getting ready to talk about Megxit, they went to commercial with My Own Way.

The scope of the original concept was too narrow, and is now too wide. Rock and Roll is a genre of music, just like pop, reggie, funk and hip hop. I've never seen Duran Duran as a rock and roll band, and the few times they have used rock to their advantage TMI, Ball of Confusion, Be My Icon etc, they still cant get away from being and dance pop band. So while I agree Motorhead and Janes Addiction should be inducted. I disagree that hip hop and dance bands should be inducted. When DD gets inducted into the RRHOF, most rockers would say its lots all credibility.
They should have started a POP HOF by now, and in that case DD would be right up there with the best of em.
Each year we read posts which say DD snubbed by RR HOF and I say Good!

Sometimes I'll tune into the BBC stations or some random European/Australian ones on the radio apps, and I'll end up discovering quite a few tracks or artists that were popular in that area, but never so much as got played in the U.S. In some cases, it's a shame, because a lot of their music is pretty good!

Once Madonna was put in that's when I stopped caring. There should be a separate Music Fall of Fame - and stick these folks in there. Problem solved. And if Iron Maiden are not in the Hall - Duran will never get in - and that might not be a bad thing.

It’s kind of fascinating to read the origins of the term. To me, pretty much anything that is listed/charted in trade publications like Billboard or readily available for listening/purchase is Pop/Popular Music, and all genres are a subset of the term.
