lots of artists release their new stuff on cassettes, it's not fair to make fun of it...
if DD released PG on a cool cassette, I bet you'd buy that

That first single stinks...
As for a cassette release - who even has a cassette player anymore? Other than me, of course...

I still have a cassette player but didn't even know about it until I accidentally opened it whilst moving my stereo.

I also have a cassette player but I don't use it. I don't know if I would buy a tape on these days. I think it will wear out over time.

I would probably buy one from the perspective of collecting, but not actually play it that much.
I was fairly loyal to the cassette as a format until the mid 90s. There seemed to be a downturn in cassette quality around then - I recall a number of cassettes mysteriously chewing up around then despite older cassettes playing fine. The Wedding Album was one of them, and I bought it twice on cassette before giving up and buying on CD.

I’ve recently spent a small fortune building a technics set of separates from the 1990s which includes a cassette deck. I then bought a few Duran and Arcadia albums on cassette via eBay.
Listening to music in today’s age of on demand streaming services I reminisce of the days when vinyl and cassettes gave as much a visual experience as an audible experience. Especially when it comes to Duran and Arcadia whose art work on their record releases was as much of a pleasurable experience as listening to the albums are/were.

Although the whole cassette culture of the 80s and 90s was crucial for my musical development, I have no desire to go back to actually playing cassettes on a regular basis. I still have a decent cassette player that I will never get rid of, but it's currently not connected to my audio setup (record player, 7.2 amplifier, CD-player and UHD/SACD-player). I have a small selection of musicassettes (15 or so) that I keep, including some with rarities that at the time contained tracks not on the CD or LP (although they have been released on CD since, eg The Cure's Standing on a beach) but I threw away all my home-taped cassettes a couple of years ago. I also think I sold all Duran MCs The current cassette revival is very much a hipster thing and a logical follow-up of the vinyl hype (with those young in the 90s growing up with cassttes now able to afford deluxe editions of 90s classic albums that often include a cassette). However, new tape decks are all of the cheap and plastic kind, as no high end cassette players are being manufactured anymore (unlike record players). As Dolby stopped licencing their tape noise reduction system to manufacturers a couple of years ago, all modern cassette releases come without any form of noise reduction, and so do new cassette players. So if you're into tape hiss, that's the way to go. For those who still have decent cassette players: hold on to them
