I don't think quick profit comes in play here. The profits from record sales or streaming of new music they make have become marginal for a band like DD. Cover versions have been written by other people by definition so a large chunk of that income goes to the original composers of the songs anyway. From what I have heard, from brief snippets in interviews, the band basically get close to nothing for any online media streaming, sales, or whetever. It's like 0.01 dollar per track (or something?), and the band don't even get that, most of the time. Perhaps people like Apple and Spotify pay up, but from the sound of it, most don't. Simon was asking for artists to get together and demand regulation, but nothing ever came of it. The band give the impression to me that most of the money, if not all of it, comes from touring. (and perhaps some residuals) Right. At best I think the band breaks even from new recorded music. I suspect at this point new music is a labor of love more than anything else (for which I am eternally grateful) and gives them purpose and drives them to go out on the road--which pays the bills.

Great point…I remember that…and as much as I would love to hear Land live, talk about a crowd killer…🤣 We can hear Land for our private gig when we hire DD to do this song and others non-hits! 💯!

Probably true. By the time they've paid for videos and touring costs, album and track sales will probably balance out studio time and mixing expenses. FP was a hit album in some places, but not all around the world like in the good old days. While Nick has a mind to think, the band will always be driven to make new music, because Nick says "Fans demand new material", when what he really means is 'It's not over yet, and I never rest on a good idea for a new song. I want to be productive.'

New music also means adding body to the legacy.

Now #1 means sales of over 150,000 over the 6 month pre-order window. As far as iTunes charts goes it probably only takes 100 sales in a 24 hr window to rocket to the top. I think putting out new music gives more value to the subsequent tour. It's a means to an end as well as an investment into their individual passions and creativity.

^ That is shocking to hear, when there are billions of people alive on the planet.
It's a free album between albums, with Andy Taylor, and a full ensemble cast. How lucky are we! Sometimes it's the greatest feeling being a Duranie!
At this point, I don't care how good or bad it is. I thought certain albums were unlistenable in the past, but may times I've changed my mind due to live versions, special occasions etc.
As other people have said, it's a promo album to maintain some fan service, as we reach the end of the FP tour. It's going to be another 2 or 3 years before the next album drops, and they may decide to hide in studios for a while, and only come out for the next world tour when close to their 70's, so I say it's all good stuff. I don't care if I hate it!

I don't care if I hate it! They're at a point in their careers right now where I don't think they'll record anything we're going to hate.

Sure, there are a few outliers here (and I'm sure someone will chime in) but I am speaking in general terms. My point is, I agree with you. There's been so much quality output over the last 13 years, I am pretty confident that I'll enjoy at least half of this album straight away and the other half will grow on me.

There's been so much quality output over the last ten years, I am pretty confident that I'll enjoy at least half of this album straight away and the other half will grow on me. Yup. I've started rotating AYNIN again recently and it is still a truly staggering album, I know it was 13 years ago now but it was absolutely the start of a golden period of renaissance for the band.
