I am aware that I may be alone with this opinion, but this is a forum to share ideas and opinions about my favourite band, so I'll go anyway. I am not interested now in a release of Reportage. The album was developed quiet 20 years ago, and lived a very troubled conception, so I am not expecting a product full of great music. I expect some good ideas here and there, but not a great album. In fact I never assumed that Sony was wrong to reject it - I consider it was wrong for the record company to suggest to the band to work with some then-hype producers as a condition to release a new album. Would I like to hear again Andy's guitar and songwriting in DD songs? Of course yes. But I am more interested in what Andy has to say now as a musician instead than his work dated 20 years ago, in a complete different context of the band respect to now. Indeed in 2005-2006 times were not great personally for Andy and his musical relationship with Nick was at the lowest point. I am not so interested to hear the musical result of that situation now. The above said, if Reportage gets finally released I'll listen to it for sure; only I have no enthusiasm for this news. I understand where you're coming from, but I personally still want to own it. I feel similar to how I felt for all of the years I wanted an official Black Album release from Prince. Did it end up becoming one of my favorite Prince albums once it finally came out? No. But I'm still glad I own an official version of it and still listen to it from time to time. As far as music goes I want to make up my own mind. I don't trust record company execs to know what I do and do not like.

Depeche Mode were on even worse personal terms during the recording of "songs of faith and devotion", and is still my favourite DM album. So tension doesn't have to result in bad music.

Martin writes better under crisis when things are going awry.

I'd argue that maybe Duran makes better music when their ideas clash a little. Remember how easy they said the songs with Giorgio went? I'm not saying that those songs suck but they are the least interesting on FUTURE PAST in my opinion. Considering that their have never been any leaks for Reportage none of us know if the songs are good or not. I want to hear and own them regardless.

Songs of Faith and Devotion is arguably their last truly great album.

It still surprises me that Reportage never leaked. Even after 18 years I still really want to hear it. As a fan I guess I'm just a completist that way. I want to hear it all!

I want to hear it and own it too, just for the completionist within me.
Do I think it's going to be a lost classic that will sit alongside the peak of their career? Probably not.
Do I think it's going to have the occasional gem that I'll love? Probably.

I was hoping to hear an update on Reportage during the latest edition of Katy's Kafe this month featuring Roger. The band mentioned finishing Reportage last year, but there haven't been any further updates or mentions of it during the subsequent Katy's Kafes. I suspect that this is deliberate, as they might be keeping updates regarding this project under wraps for now.

Or it's scrapped... but I guess we'll see.

Musically - the sound of Reportage may be in the same arena (see what I did there?) as the last Fab Five creation prior to the 2006 AT departure - Instant Karma. If that track is the sign post for Reportage - I will joyfully take that road.
