Hey everyone - From DD.com - SAD SAD NEWS INDEED!!! I posted this in the GENERAL FORUM - but I hope you don't mind that I post it again in this FORUM.
Colin Thurston
With great sadness the band has learned that Colin Thurston passed away on Monday. Colin worked as a producer on Duran Duran's first two releases, and the band had a reunion of sorts with him in 2004 when they played at the Birmingham NEC.
"Without Colin's depth of vision, we would never have become the band we became, would never have been able to make the first two albums.
We were attracted to him by his work with Bowie and Iggy in Berlin. When EMI A+R Dave Ambrose suggested working with Colin, we couldn't believe our luck. In more recent years we would often talk about getting back in the studio, but it was not to be.
We were very happy to see him at our NEC concert in '04. Not too surprised for his departing, he had been sick for some time, but very, very sad.
He will be remembered as an important musical stylist who was a major catalyst for the 'eighties sound' and a super, super nice guy, a ladies man to the end.
We shall all miss you Colin, and thank you for the gift of your gifts.
John Taylor, January 17, 2007"

Oh my, that is so sad. I love this man. I kept hoping deep down that one day they would work with him again and see what sound they would all come up with.

i replied in the other forum too. this is sad to hear. i too kinda hoped he'd work with the band again, if he was still in production. a lot of what we love about the band was due to this guy ... RIP.

Yes, mondaybox you are so right. That early work of the band was just amazing, and so much of it was due to Colin's talent as a producer. I couldnt agree more.

to this day, the first DD album is a favourite. It is to both DD's and Colin Thurston's credit that twenty six years later,it sounds just as fresh(to my ears, at least) as it did back in '81. He'll be sorely missed.

I was so saddened to hear this new - I just wanted everyone to know - I am sorry about the double posting of the topics......

Oh, that's so sad. He's still my favorite DD producer of the bunch. R.I.P., Colin.

As others have pointed out, listening to Rio or Duran Duran, the albums sound as if they could have been recorded just yesterday. The production of the music is timeless in the same way that many of the Beatles singles are. A remarkable talent.

That's sad news ~ I always hoped they'd work with him again as those first two albums were the real classic DD albums.
RIP and thanks
