I just really listened to this for the first time... and I wonder why John prefers it "so much more than the album version". It sounds almost like a demo or something... it's not bad, but not so radically different IMO... what did you all think when you listened to it?

I can't bear to listen to either one of them. Awful song from an awful album.

For me it never stood out as a favorite, but I don't hate it as much as... say... Downtown.

it has been so long since i heard either version ... disliked the main album version so much not sure if it is worth 4 minutes of my life to listen to it again, but never say never. i think i heard the "original" version once or twice ... the album version had this "house-y" piano thing going on, right, or was that some other dodgy duran song?
i think the only time duran doing house ever worked was the euro-dub mix of "all she wants is" which was the main 12" version of that song (i use the term "house" broadly, i'm not too up on my different dance genre terms). anyway i quite like that one! ... speaking of, anyone got it? mine's on vinyl, 3000 miles away ...

I never heard the original of "Drug". Where can I find it?

The easiest way to get the All She Wants is 12" AND the original version of Drug is to get the Singles 86-95 CD box set - I finally dragged it out last night and listened to some of the mixes I had only heard once or twice before... A lot of it isn't bad. The mixes of Violence if Summer are atrocious though.

One of my least favorite Duran songs, regardless of the version. I usually just skip it.

so i just went and listened to the "all she wants is" euro-dub mix that i mentioned above on rhapsody (25 free plays a month, i've just discovered!!!). ok, so i didn't like it as much as i used to, back in 1990 or whenever, i guess it is dated now. i kinda like the original album version though, though i never figured out how they got sued for DYBIS by creedence or whoever, and not for ASWI by roxy music, for the clear "love is the drug" lift! ...
as regards big thing, i put it in my second-tier duran favorites list. i LOVE "land", and very much like "i don't want your love" and "lake shore driving/edge or america," and DYBIS is good too ... i hate "drug"- that f___ing ruins it for me, and a couple of others are weak (e.g. "too late marlene") ...

Land is one of my favorite Duran tunes. I'm always surprised that it doesn't get more mention by the fans. It's a beautiful song.
