I don't think so, fancypants, but it's been years since I was there! I can check and see... ETA: Well, it looks like they actually are pretty close, though probably not walking distance - I'd call one of the venues and ask! Trouble is, I-75 in downtown Detroit just shut down for a two-year-long construction project and I'm not sure if that's going to affect getting to the Masonic (and the MGM Grand). I'd definitely consult the Michigan Department of Transportation before making plans to go down there as things could be quite messy with all the detours! ETA again!: Here's the MDOT link to the I-75 shutdown information - looks like it's very close to where the Masonic is: www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,1607,7-151-9621_11008_45614---,00.html

I agree the Fox would have been better--Seinfeld is playing there on Friday not sure y they could not book that theater-way better to see a concert--Masonic is very run down--I went to a wedding there a couple of years ago--it sucks!

I have a very hard time paying for tickets to summer stage when it's supposed to be free. Am I reading this wrong? I might actually pass... and wait for a covered venue with a confirmed seat. I feel like this could be mayhem. www.summerstage.org/index.aspx?lobid=854

I can't believe the Masonic can be all that bad...I mean it's where the Broadway shows go. Maybe now that Mike Illitch's company Olympia Entertainmant will manage and run the place maybe they'll spruce it up. Sounds like a better option to me than the State or Royal Oak. (can't be worse than the Agora in Cleveland) Isn't the Lodge shut down, too? How the heck are natives supposed to get to downtown? ETA -- "It's sort of old and a little run down, and near some rather grim-looking boarded-up buildings." -- Doesn't this describe most of downtown Detroit? I know they are trying to make it better but even though it doesn't scare me away, it is a scary place. Esp. when I have gone there by myself.

YahOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm so glad Chicago made the list!!!!!!! Anyone planning to come to Chicago? Nothing is up on ticketmaster etc yet. Are all the tickets for all their shows really going to go on sale this Saturday? I would have thought that the ticket places would have something up or am I getting too anxious! This will be my very first show ever! I am a Duran show virgin but have been a fan since the beginning! Couldn't be happier!!!!!!!!

Actually, the Masonic isn't bad; I've seen (over the years) The White Stripes, INXS and Modest Mouse there. The one thing that unquestionably sucks about it is that there's only one big hallway stretching around the outside of the auditorium, so if you're claustrophobic, you're going to hate it.

FYI ABOUT SUMMER STAGE IN NYC
Only selected shows for the summer are FREE. Most well known acts play there but charge. Not all shows are free.
