What did everyone think of Georgie's speech? Personally, I think sending more troops is a big mistake. Here's what I think we need over there: a change from the bottom up. We should get into the schools and teach those kids we aren't monsters. I have seen footage of school children being applauded by their teachers for calling the U.S. infidels who all deserve to die. If we can't change the viewpoint of the children, this cycle will never end. Our soldiers need to carry candy in their pockets, not grenades. Yes simplistic, but I'm a simple person P.S. Who taught that man to speak??

I agree with Ivyagogo. Watching him speak is torture. Most of the other presidents were able to flow when speaking. Everytime he speaks I become more convinced he's slow.

Although I didn't watch it (I can't stand to hear the man speak, or try to speak, he strains way too much to try to see the teleprompter) I TOTALLY agree with you, ivyagogo!!!!
We need our men and women home!!!!

The war in Iraq is a mess. I have debated this topic with many people including my wife who is a hard line conservative, and found the one thing we can all agree on. Mistakes, huge mistakes have been made, but it is the PLAN that is causing all the fuss. What can be done to fix it? What would happen if the troops set out now? What will happen if they stay? Nobody has a crystal ball, and the thought alone is very scary.
Bush is going to have a hard time convincing the now Democratic controlled congress and house, but although Democrats tout wielding power, the split is pretty thin between republicans and democrats especially in the Senate. The only problem is, Bush is losing support from even some of his most staunch of war supporters, which can lean to the democrats' way.
Yes, Bush has the authority to send more troops because of his post as commander in chief. However, the house handles the purse strings. Now to stop the president from sending more troops in, Pelosi said she will stop giving the man a blank check... what are the consequences of stopping the flow of cash?
This is a very delicate balance, and although I would love to see the troops come home as much as the next guy, will pulling out now make things worse? Will it make the propaganda machine of the enemy bolster the spirits of the would-be terrorists? I have no idea, and I can go on all day about it. However, I will go back to the original premise of this reply that one thing holds true. Bush has seriously f___ed up on the war.
...he made a wrong turn into Iraq when he should of focused on Afghanistan. That's where Osama is, right? Where is Osama? Was his cronies responsible for the attack on America's soil? Why did Bush HAVE to invade Iraq?
blah blah blah I am done.

Well, he didn't have to invade Iraq - he wanted to. He completely f___ed up the whole shebang. It matters not now what we do - if we stay, that's wrong, and if we go, Iraq falls deeper into the quagmire and that's our fault, too. Now it's time to hold al-Maliki accountable? After four d**n years? What has al-Maliki been doing up until now? Fostering support for the Shiite militias, do you suppose?
And now, he has conveniently manufactured an excuse to go after Iran and Syria. This will definitly get a whole lot worse before it gets any better. And why not? His 8 years are done, so who gives a shit anyhow?
edit - This forum edits d-amn but not shit? Interesting.
- my rant now over also
