As it's my vacation, I intend on having a few adult beverages while in NYC. Correct that. ALOT of adult beverages. Since I'm going to be up there for four days, I need to find a couple of places to sit back and drink the hours away.
Can anyone recommend a few joints that could be fun? I dug the Slaughtered Lamb in Novemeber and will make that a definate stop.
Thanks for the info and if you feel like sharing a drink, let me know!
No matter the time of day, avoid Midtown area like the plague for drinks. Happy Hours rule. We have some of them listed under 'Cheap Eats':
Happy Hour! (The BEST deals in NYC – and you know we’d know!) – 5:00-7:00
La Palapa (2 locations) 2-for-1 Margaritas, Cervesas, and Sangrias (served in a small pitcher- 2-3 glasses per pitcher for $4!) and $2.95 appetizers at the bar. We’re regulars! Greenwich Village: 6th Ave between Washington and West 4th st: www.lapalapa.com/ East Village: St Marks between 1st and 2nd
Lure $1 Oysters, $4 beers, $5 wines, and $6 Specialty Drinks. More appetizers in the $5-6 range. Great deal in a very nautical-inspired, upscale space. NE corner of Mercer and Prince, opposite The Mercer – below ground.: www.lurefishbar.com/menus/Lure_HappyHour.pdf
Fish Half-dozen oysters and a PBR (or house wine) $8. And they have good chowders. 280 Bleecker between Jones St. and 7th Avenue: No website
7A 2-for-1 drinks from 1:00-7:00. May God bless them. Avenue A at 7th St: www.7acafe.com/
Some of my other faves:
SB3: Avenue B at 3rd street (SE corner) -- and you can get great, cheap street tacos on the cross corner at Snack Dragon (NW corner). Really great drink menu. I don't know about their happy hour -- or if they even have one. I always seem to get there in the wee's.
Mama's Bar: Avenue B at 3rd -- this is on the SW corner. it's awning reads "Ben's Deli", but it is the bar to Mama's. Jeramiah is the bartender/owner. If he's there, have him hook you up with some infused vodkas and gins.
The Down Under Bar at 8 Mile Creek -- Mott Street between Spring/Prince. Cute Aussie Boys. 'Nuff said.
Let me think about a few more. I have to go and see a lady about a venue. (should be final details, but everything could change...LOL)
beer etc: if wine and beer is your thing, my current fave bar is the other room on perry street, and greenwich, in the w. village. great selection of beers and wines by the glass. another beer place is the half pint on w. 3rd and thompson. in june a few of us met up at the scratcher on e. 5th and bowery. i hear that may be a meet-up venue on the thursday night before sbs.
cocktails? for expensive (though generous) ones, with really great bar snacks: the bar @ the four seasons hotel (in the back, not the lobby bar) on 57th and madison, or the king cole bar @ the st. regis on 55th and 5th. both very nice places to sit and have a cocktail. another very good cocktail place is pegu club on houston @ w. broadway in soho, and not quite as expensive at the other two i mentioned.
