Has anyone seen this yet? I think I'm going to this weekend. I hear it's pretty intense.

I never got into these types of movies. Never sat through all the Lord of the Rings. It looks really well done and cool. I might check it out, wanna go on Sat. Denny? I'll pick you up at 8.

well i'm not really a fan of fantasy or stuff like that (e.g. don't like the LOTR trilogy) but i just loved this movie. it is part fantasy, part historical drama ... really good flick. and the soundtrack is great too!
i've been recommending it to people ... :-)

I'm looking forward to seeing it too. By the way, we finally got to see Night at the Museum and we all loved it! My son was really scared at first and wanted to leave -- before ANYTHING had even happened! I think he was scared of what he didn't know. Turns out he had a great time. We all really loved the Easter Island statue.
Hey dum dum, where my gum gum?

This film isn't exactly what you think it is.
I saw it and loved it.
During the Spanish Civil War, a young girl, Ofelia, accompanies her pregnant/sick mother to stay with Ofelia's new step-dad. The step-dad is a captain in Franco's army and a total evil prick. He's there to search down and kill rebels; he takes a cold glee in violence. He risks his new wife's health bringing her own into the hills, because of some outdated idea that a son should be born where a father is. Ofelia is brought along, powerless, confused, and scared.
At this place where an old stone labarynth is sitting, Ofelia "enters" into a fantasy world, yes, but...
She doesn't do this to escape the violence around her. In fact, her fantasy world could be considered as violent and ugly and uncertain as the real world. Ofelia does have a bit more control and esteem in the fantasy world than in the real world, but that's all she gets...
And, not to spoil anything, but there are two things that happen that catch you A FEW MINUTES OR HOURS AFTER you've seen this sad but beautiful film that makes you think, "Yeah, but wait, how'd this happen? Or how'd she do that?" and there's only one answer!
A lovely film - violent but fantastic, I would suggest it to anyone who likes foreign films or films that make you think.
