To try to keep things in check, i've been ignoring the Japanese auctions for books & magazines... ...but then this was quite interesting - Attachment Deleted

Finally decided that i deserved to open the DDCJ stuff, & lots of it isn't quite what i expected. - Well, the Vol 1-4 magazines are tiny – only being A5 – but are each around 30 pages… …&, unlike the standard FC, you could back order copies of both the magazines & the A2 foldout sheets - inc the Vol 4 ones, so at least some of the random bits of paper are sensibly later. - Most of the random bits of paper make no sense to me whatsoever at all in terms of ordering them - &, tbh, i’m not 100% sure if the 4 sheets that mention the 4 volumes respectively were sent out before or with the things - so all of them are going to take some research &/or guesswork. Well, along with some stuff with no images/English words for context, there's stuff like a sheet that's advertising the late 86 UK FC set - which they're calling Volume 10...
(whilst it was obviously the 11th set of the UK FC stuff - this 'might' be explained if the flyer with the 1st album i picked up the a couple of weeks ago was after the UK FC was subcontracted out in late 81 - & so the Japanese didn't get the first set)
...however it also has a iDWYL/BT badge image on it - so it's clearly later, but can't immediately tie it to either Vol 3 or 4.
What was noticable as i was looking through was that they were giving some advance info about TV & magazine appearances - so it was clearly better run than anything else Duran-wise; either before or since.
- There was a large branded envelope which wasn’t shown in the auction, but i’m really pleased to get as an extra. Yeah, i don't know why the UK FC couldn't put this kind of effort in at the time - as the nearest anything came were ink stamped logos in 81 & (from recollection) 88 - on the otherwise plain brown envelopes.
- & there’s a tiny bit of English on this set of stuff which makes it seem like it ‘may’ have also been a BT press kit for Japan; as it’s thanking the Japanese FC for info, which would be a bit weird if it was just to be sent out as FC stuff - Attachment DeletedAlso, the BT cover image is printed onto the folder, which is a reasonably thick plastic... ...& the pages are double-sided.
Yeah, so there's only been a cursory opening & rough ordering of what i can so far into a folder, but am really very pleased with the stuff...
...but i think i'm going to have to have a look at OCR for Katakana to make any real progress.

Wow, that is some really cool stuff Tim! Amazing! Thanks Peter. Tbh i'd ended up semi-convincing myself that something would be wrong with the DDCJ stuff for no good reason - whereas it's all in a pretty amazing condition. Okay, with there being no comparative list then i've no idea if i've got every random bit of paper... ...however, other than the membership card - which i knew about at the time of bidding... ...the 2 things that i'm not certain about, are - 1. There's a strange small sheet thing which i believe is for handwriting merch orders on...
(certainly in the Vol 1 then there's one fixed on the inside of the back cover - but there was also then a loose one so it might have changed)
...where if every set had one then don't have enough of them - though i think the couple i have are the same.
2. & it 'may' be that a text only sheet for the Duran World book is incomplete - but i'm not sure about that as, whilst there's part of a dashed line showing at the bottom - - there looks to be all of the relevant info (description, price, address, phone no) on what's there.
- none of the other sheets obviously had a tear/cut off order form.
- & what's there is A5 - so it could have been that they printed 2 sheets on an A4 page. Otherwise there's *loads* of text to translate... ...& i'm sure more things to discover. Well, i'm not 100% certain but it provisionally looked at though there were some fan events - as, whilst i've no knowledge of Japanese, it appeared as though there was at least an event of some sort at Club Citta in 89...
...& possibly a screening of 3 To Get Ready.

Amazing stuff Tim > LOVE IT Can you perhaps also share some pics of the 86/87 era Japanese fanclub mags? thnx in advance Okay, i'll add it to the list... More practically, as the late 86 stuff looked to be the UK stuff + loads of white pages of translation, then there's only the 1st DDCJ set of that's from 87 - as, from recollection, it was the July when it launched & the August when it was first sent out. So, if it's doing it functionally there'd be what - ~16 photos for the Vol 1, prob 4 photos for the A2 sheet, another 1 for 2 photocards (need to double check if they're DDCJ or merch at some point) & 2 (i think) for an extra sheet in Japanese. Yeah, whilst it doesn't sound like much, as i don't do mobiles then it's having to use my old G9 - & although it was/is a decent enough camera in general (i know that Nick had the later G10), it's really not great for this kind of stuff. So most of everything has to be taken a couple of times, & a bit of balancing work in PS.
(if money ever sorts out, i do need to reconsider the phone position just for this purpose - as it'd also perhaps make listing some of the duplicate stuff on eBay viable)
Anyway, i'll see what the upcoming days bring & will try to get some photos done for you.

Just as a note, having had a brief chat with a store in Japan over the last couple of days, whatever this extra flyer/postcard thing is that i picked up with the Notorious CD (to get the laminated card) also came with copies of the LP with poster.
That said, as this is the only image i have of it until the next big package of stuff from Japan arrives (it's not even been sent yet as i've a week & a half before i have to have everything consolidated & sent) then i wouldn't want to hazard trying to translate using that low quality of an image -
- so i've no idea whether it's actually worth seeking out for completion purposes.

A nice little lot from Japan - Attachment DeletedAttachment Deletedi can't see where i've put the Arena/SRTR flyer that has constantly appeared whenever i've looked for anything else - but i'm pretty sure this is an alt for me... ...& i'm not 100% sure what the postcard is - though the one bit i can make out properly "グッズ・プレゼント" translates to "Goods/Presents" - which suggests it may be a merch offer of some sort.
