i'm still not convinced that those Greek 12"s themselves are from 85 - as the only thing that i'm aware of that ties it to that date is the AVTAK branding on the canvas bag from the unofficial UK released set of 5...
...but that's just a bag created to sell things which already existed.
Me is sure that at tleast 3 records from that bag are from 1985.
These Greek 12 inches have these cat.-no:
062-
2007156 is Planet Earth
062-
2007166 is Save A Prayer
062-
2007176 is Girls On Film
And this from May of 85:
006-
2006307 is A View To A Kill
Ah, i've not looked at the records themselves in a million years...
...& quite clearly you're correct on those 3 - not least as the SAP live version (ie the sleeve) was a Jan/Feb 85 release in different countries...
...but also since, checking for other 062-2007 ones, they're also from 85.
So you're quite correct on that score & i was clearly wrong - so thanks for disabusing me of my lack of knowledge on that part of the package Ansgar.
Naturally this says nothing about The Reflex or TWB though - where, since they're not using the same numbering - 062-2001516 & 062-2003826 - both of which correspond to, for example, the Dutch & German codes...
...as opposed to, say, Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill from 85 which had a 062-2007 586 code...
...& so would provisionally appear to be from 84.
Or the package itself.
So, simply for info, this is why i don't believe the package is a legit Greek release.
Looking at the packaging as a whole, this is what came with the thing originally -
This isn't my original btw, as the piece of paper & plastic bag went the way of all things (as did the handles as the bag was turned into a cushion) - but from a third NM/unused set i picked up on eBay much later...
(the second set was bought so that i had a complete bag)
...however this matches how i bought my original in real time from, i think, WH Smith in Harrogate.
Now, whilst i've tried to contact what appears to be the latest iteration of the company (Timewarp Media) for information...
(they've changed names a few times over the years, but it was possible to track them both forwards & backwards)
...they didn't get back to me - but "Mainline Record Company" was a London based firm...
...where the info i found going back was that they was that, whilst they became more legit over time, after this Duran package, they were most often a bit like Bakatak - releasing slightly dubious things from the mid-80s & certainly into the 90s that were never quite copyright infringing enough to get them shut down.
Yeah, it then should be viewable in the image (once clicked on to get a bigger version of course) that, along with the slightly random underlining & "version" (not "versions")...
...they didn't even splash out on a guillotine; where it's been scored & torn from a larger sheet - where, given that this piece has 2 edge sides, 2 torn ones & is A6 in size, i'd assume they printed them in 4s on A4 paper.
Otherwise, it was really common for particularly smaller record stores & random seaside shops to import records & tapes from Greece in bulk, in my real time knowledge, in mid-late 80s; though apparently somewhere like Andy's Records (Cambridge, Norwich & Peterborough from recollection) was doing this earlier - as they were *much* cheaper to buy than the UK releases & so allowed them to compete on price with the big chains...
(apparently it varied over time, so at some points there'd, for example, be loads of German versions of things for the same reason)
...&, buying this package in real time, it was certainly much cheaper than buying 5 Duran UK 12" singles new in the same store - &, by that time, lots of the UK releases were back in plain black sleeves (post the 83 re-issues) when sold new.
So, anyway, that's probably a reasonably good summary as to why i really don't believe that it was ever an official EMi Greece package.
Not much info on it, but there was also a bag put together for The Smiths following the same pattern -
"A black shoulder bag including five Greek 12"s of the Smiths appeared on the market in the late 1980s. The 12"s included are "How Soon Is Now?", "Bigmouth Strikes Again", "Ask", "Girlfriend In A Coma" and "Sheila Take A Bow". The bag has an 'ironed-on' photo of Morrissey from the Smiths days on it."
