An auction for the sticker prompted me to look to see what was available from a Mike Read Pop Sticker Weetabix offer from 83; so these are now on the way - Attachment Deleted(this isn't the physical sticker i bought - but the auction i originally saw has a better pic... ...whereas the lot i picked up had the Modern Romance & Musical Youth - The Youth Of Today was the first album i ever owned - ones as well for less money)
(no idea what magazine the ad was from... ...yet)

Abbey Road Studios production, DAT (digital audio tape). Duran Duran – Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) Label: Studio 3, EMI Abbey Road – CDDDB 34/ 7 98876 2 Format: DAT, Single Sided, Album, Stereo, Production . Country: UK Released: 1993 Genre: Rock, Pop Tracklist: Too Much Information 4:56 Ordinary World 5:40 Love Voodoo 4:57 Drowning Man 5:14 Shotgun 0:54 Come Undone 4:38 Breath After Breath 4:57 UMF 5:32 Femme Fatale 5:17 None Of The Above 4:22 Shelter 4:23 To Whom It May Concern 4:22 Sin Of The City 7:15
[Edit]
As noted on the next page, assuming that RH/DD tape is original then clearly the info online about the tape not being released until 1998 is wrong.
Obviously this doesn't actually mean that either the Notorious or WA DATs are actually from 1993 - but it appears that they could be.
[End Edit]
(the 467 NAGRA-D, which doesn't have a date, is a reel to reel format so that's clearly not it)
So, whilst i don't know quite you bought it as, certainly the info on the Notorious auction that it was "MADE IN UNITED KINDOM AT ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS FOR EMI RECORDS LTD. IN 1986"(sic), looks to be wrong.
Yeah, still a cool thing to own imho - as i do like the odd formats.

[Final Edit?]
As noted a couple of posts down, assuming that RH/DD tape is original then clearly the info online about the tape not being released until 1998 is wrong.
Obviously this doesn't actually mean that either the Notorious or WA DATs are actually from 1993 - but it appears that they could be.
[End Edit]
Hi Angelos
i'm certainly not claiming that DAT didn't exist before then or that there weren't official "production .s" & whatnot made on DAT at an earlier date - as either of those statements would clearly be nonsense...
...but if, as all of the info i can find shows, Ampex did not make the 467 DAT tape before 1998...
(which is the physical model of DAT tape made by Ampex shown in both your image & that Notorious listing)
...how can they be from 1993?
Oh, & the reason for previously commenting on the Ampex 467 NAGRA tape, is that it was certainly being used for production .s in 1992 - BUT it's a completely different format.
[edit] sorry, i didn't finish explaining the relevance of the NAGRA version...
...but if, for example, you look at the Billboard references to production formats used on albums -
- in 1992 it refers to an Ampex 467 being used - link
- whilst this page from 2000 then explicitly notes the 467 DAT as being different from the 467 (NAGRA) - link
...so in looking for info about the physical brand & model of tape that you've bought then we need to ensure that it's the correct version.
Oh, & quite obviously, if anyone can find evidence of the Ampex 467 DAT tape being sold before 1998 to alter the timeline then i'm happy to be proven wrong... ...just that everything i can find points to that as the first date.
[Edit 2]
Just looking at the Discogs link you've given which actually relate to the DAT tapes; as everything else is irrelevant...
...the version of Notorious has a CDPRG code, whereas the DAT inlay has a CDP code.
Now, there's obviously 2 options here, even if we assumed that Discogs had *every* version listed & was (otherwise) 100% accurate...
Firstly, the code matters; in which case it could be for any of these -
- where we simply don't have dates for three for the 3 US represses.
- since i don't think we're seriously believing that there wasn't a repress for a box set released roughly 7 years after the 1993 repress.
Now, given that the box set also has TWA in (with a CDDDB 34 code that matches your DAT tape) *AND* there's no evidence that the Ampex 467 DAT tape existed any earlier than 1998...
...would it not be *far* more likely that both of these Ampex tapes were copied from the Safety to tie in with something like pressing copies for this box set?

Yeah, there were a load of DAT brands & models over the years - given that Sony introduced the format in 1987... ...&, ttbomk, they were commonly used through until at least the mid-00s. & it just happens that we appear to be able to date the introduction of that specific Ampex model.
(likewise, i've no reason to believe that those DD DATs aren't genuine - just from a later date)

I have this DAT from April 1993, if it helps in DAT topic How very weird... ...though, as i said earlier - "Oh, & quite obviously, if anyone can find evidence of the Ampex 467 DAT tape being sold before 1998 to alter the timeline then i'm happy to be proven wrong... ...just that everything i can find points to that as the first date."So clearly this would mean that the info online about it not being released until 1998 is incorrect... ...though, whilst i've gone through & struck through most of what i'd written previously, it doesn't necessarily mean that either the Notorious or WA DATs were from 1993 - esp given that the code on the Notorious one doesn't match the UK re-release.
