thank you all for the replies.
droid, you are way more talented than me. i could never work out how to dress them to look like dd. and me, sew? lmfao!
i did an ebay search for the "harley davidson" ken doll, but what came up looks nothing like the lovely doll above.
my vote for the figures: make them with "real" hair (none of that molded-on-the-head stuff), model them from around the time of "rio", with simon's blonde hair (a bit longer than the "harley davidson" ken doll above). oh, and earrings. the simon doll must have those gold hoop earrings he used to wear. i really miss those.
maybe we should start a petition or something, to get these dolls made! it's crazy to me that it hasn't already been done.
do you suppose they would consider making the dolls anatomically correct?

It's funny that you bring this up, lurkerlebon. A couple of years ago I got into high-end 1:6 scale action figures. There is this one company, Hot Toys, that's been doing some fantastic Michael Jackson figures. Another company (Medicom) is doing KISS, but I don't like the way they make figures as much. There are plenty of customizers out there that could make you a perfect SLB or whole band. But it's very very expensive. A custom head sculpt can cost anywhere between $30 to $200. It would help if you got a bunch of people to go into the deal with you. Then you have to have the sculpt painted which is an art all on its own. That will also cost on average about $50, but there is usually a long long wait list from the best painters. Getting custom made clothes will also be expensive, but that seems to be something many take on themselves (it's a little easier to sew than it is to sculpt). The bodies are easy to get--they sell plenty of "naked" bodies for customization. If you're still interested in getting a custom figure done, visit the www.sideshowcollectors.com forum. I can tell you who the best are in their particular fields, but check out the customs section and see for yourself who you would want to work on your project. And I would recommend not skimping if you do go ahead. You will only regret it later that you didn't go to the best people to begin with. I would LOVE to have the band in the Wild Boys costumes, or the Reflex or NMOM outfits, but I wouldn't be able to afford a custom job! I can only hope that one day Hot Toys decides to make a set!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that there were a series of three different HD Kens. The blonde just happens to be the newest.

I forget the site now, but there was one where you just had to send them photos of different angles of a person's head and they'd make a custom head sculpt and put it on a generic doll body. It looks like a really neat idea, but HOLY #$&% it was waaay too expensive for me! Which is mainly why I got into customizing my own pre-existing dolls. I could never make anything as good as those sculpted heads though.

I totally understand, Droid. The whole thing is very strange. I used to collect regular action figures here and there, and was totally happy and content with what Hasbro, etc. put out. But once I discovered those high-end expensive figures, nothing else suffices! It's a sickness, really. And it makes you broke. Those Michael Jacksons are perfection. If only they would do Duran!
